In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be the surviving spouse and/or dependent child of certain public employees.
  3. Must be enrolled in a Texas public college or university.
  4. Must enroll as a full-time student.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be college freshmen or older.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Texas resident undergraduate students who are the surviving spouse and/or dependent children of certain Texas employees killed in the line of duty. Applicants must enroll at a public Texas college or university.

Additional Information: The Exemption for the Surviving Spouse and Minor Children of Certain Deceased Public Servants Program is a state program, created by the state of Texas, established to provide free tuition and fees, free textbooks, and possibly free room and board to certain students whose parent or spouse was killed in the line of duty while employed in certain public service positions. The public employee must have died in the performance of his/her duty on or after Sept. 1, 2000. Eligibility is limited to only public colleges or universities in Texas.

Award Amount: Provide free tuition and fees, free textbooks, and possibly free room and board. Awards may be renewable providing the student maintains satisfactory academic progress, as determined by the institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,000.

Eligible students must make application for the Exemption for the Surviving Spouse and Minor Children of Certain Deceased Public Servants program directly through his/her college.
