Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 400 awards offered annually. In prior years, there were 352 scholarships awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have a cumulative, unweighted grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. Current college freshmen must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher for the fall 2015 semester.
  3. Must plan to enroll in a two- or four-year accredited undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate degree program as a part-time or full-time student. Employee applicants may be enrolled part time, but dependents must be enrolled full time.
  4. Must be a college freshman or higher by the upcoming fall semester.
  5. Must be a current civilian federal employee OR the dependent of such a person (child or spouse). The employee must have three or more years of service by Aug. 31, 2016. Past active-duty time will count toward this requirement if included in the service comp. date on the Standard Form 50. No additional consideration is given for service beyond the minimum requirement.

Additional Information: The FEEA Scholarship Program is for current civilian federal employees and their dependent family members (spouse/child). Adult children and other relatives are eligible if claimed on the sponsoring employee's tax return. Active duty military members and their dependents are eligible only through a sponsoring civilian employee spouse. Military retirees and dependents are eligible if the retiree (or retiree's spouse) is a current civilian federal employee. All applicants will be notified of their final status by Oct. 31, 2018. Six students will be selected to win an additional $5,000 in scholarships through the FEEA-NTEU (National Treasury Employees Union) scholarship fund. All applicants eligible for FEEA's annual contest are also eligible to win a FEEA-NTEU Scholarship. The student should visit www.feea.org/programs/scholarships/feea-nteu for more information. Additional scholarships are available through the Doc Cooke Memorial Scholarship and various partner organizations. These scholarships are available to eligible students who submit the FEEA scholarship application. Additional information is available on the FEEA website.

Award Amount: $500 to $2,500 annually, non-renewable. Awards of more than $750 are paid in two installments, half in September/October and the other half in December. All award checks are made out to both the student and the school and must be deposited into the student's school account.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available online from the Federal Employee Education & Assistance Fund (FEEA) website. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit the following documents: a typed, double-spaced essay of no more than two pages responding to the topic listed on the application; a written recommendation/character reference from a supervisor, coworker, community leader, teacher, or counselor (must be signed and on letterhead if applicable); a transcript as appropriate for his/her level of study at time of application (see application for details); a one-page listing of awards and/or extracurricular/community service activities; and a copy of the federal employee's most recent Standard Form 50 'Notice of Personnel Action' (if not currently available, a current pay stub and a letter from personnel identifying his/her duty station, grade and service comp. date required).The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online no later than the deadline date.
