Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be enrolled as a college sophomore, junior, or senior in good standing in the upcoming academic year.
  3. Must be a full-time student.
  4. Must intend to pursue a career in electronic journalism or broadcast media (e.g., online, radio, television). Students may major in any field as long as they intend to pursue an eligible career.
  5. Must attend the University of Texas at Austin.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available to U.S. and international college sophomores, juniors, and seniors at UT-Austin. Students may major in any area, but must intend to pursue a career in electronic journalism or broadcast media.

Application requirements for the George Foreman Tribute to Lyndon B. Johnson Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Recommendation letter
  • Cover letter
  • Work samples (3-5)
Additional Information: George Foreman is a boxing champion, Olympic gold medal winner, and celebrated pitchman. As a young man, he was inspired by President Lyndon Johnson and by RTDNF founder Barney Oldfield. In his autobiography "By George," Foreman credits LBJ's Job Corps program for rescuing him "from the gutter." He also thanks Barney Oldfield "for a lifetime of friendship, devotion, counsel, and wisdom. The world would be a far better place if everyone were lucky enough to have a friend like you." Scholarships will be awarded in December. Winners are also invited to attend the Excellence in Journalism conference.

Award Amount: $6,000 annually, non-renewable. Please note: Past recipients may not reapply for an undergraduate scholarship; however, they may apply for fellowship opportunities.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $6,000.
