Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Oklahoma.
  3. Must be 21 years of age or younger.
  4. Must have been in Department of Human Services custody for nine or more months between the ages of 16 and 18.
  5. Must be enrolled in an Oklahoma public college or university or certain programs at technology centers.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must have graduated from high school or the equivalent within the previous three years.
  8. Must have graduated from a State Board of Education-accredited high school, the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, or a high school bordering Oklahoma as approved by the State Board of Education, or have completed the General Educational Development (GED) requirements.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Oklahoma undergraduate students who graduated from an Oklahoma high school (or earned a GED) within the past three years and are attending an Oklahoma public college or certain programs at technology centers. Students must have been in the custody of the Department of Human Services for nine or more months between the ages of 16 and 18, and must be 21 or younger at time of application.

Application requirements for the Independent Living Act (Foster Care Tuition Waiver) are:

Additional Information: The Independent Living Act was established by the 2000 Oklahoma Legislature to ensure that eligible individuals who have been or are in the foster care program of the Department of Human Services receive services that include housing, medical coverage and education.

Award Amount: The award will cover the resident tuition cost at any participating institution in Oklahoma. Actual award amounts may vary depending on the type of college the student is attending and the enrollment status. Recipients are eligible to continue receiving tuition waivers until they reach 26 years of age, or upon completion of a baccalaureate degree or program certificate, whichever comes first.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.
