In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend Grand Rapids Community College or Grand Valley State University.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be an undergraduate student.
  6. Must demonstrate unmet financial need.
  7. Must be a resident of Kent County, Michigan.

Additional Information: The Grand Rapids Community Foundation awards hundreds of scholarships annually, primarily to Kent County students bound for or in college, or those pursuing a technical career. This scholarship, named in honor of Jacob R. & Mary M. VanLoo & Lenore K. In addition to the online application form, an interested student must submit transcripts (official or unofficial), an essay describing his/her personal and professional aspirations, and documentation such as the FAFSA Student Aid report that proves financial need.
