Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  2. Must have employment experience with migratory farm work.
  3. Must be a resident of or have a history of migration to Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, or Westchester Counties in New York State.
  4. Must be a high school senior or current undergraduate student at the time of application.

Description: This award is available to a migrant farmworker or child of a migrant farmworker from Mexico with a history of migration to Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, or Westchester Counties in New York State. Though not required, but because of Jean’s personal interests, preference will be given to a student with a demonstrated interest in traditional Mexican art and culture.

  • Migrant Education Certificate of Eligibility (COE)
  • Personal statement
Additional Information: The purpose of this scholarship is to serve as a memorial to Jean DeGrace Crandall, educator and friend to the migrant community, by offering an annual award in the amount of $1,000 for post-secondary scholarship assistance to a migrant farmworker or child of a migrant farmworker from Mexico with a history of migration to Ulster, Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, or Westchester Counties in New York State. Though not required, but because of Jean’s personal interests, preference will be given to a student with a demonstrated interest in traditional Mexican art and culture.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Geneseo Migrant center website. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit a letter of recommendation from a school, community or educational agency representative with a personal knowledge of the applicant's character, educational commitment and financial need; a personal essay including his/her background, career, and personal goals and indicating why he/she should receive this assitance; proof that he/she has been admitted to the school chosen; and a copy of his/her current or most recent Migrant Education Program Certificate of Elegibility (COE). All applications and supporting documents must be submitted online or postmarked by the deadline date.
