The Lawrence Strader Boy Scouts of America Scholarship was founded in 2010 to assist low-income Boyscouts in eastern Tennessee. Applicants must have a minimum of three years participation as a Boy Scout or be an Eagle Scout who was a registered member of Boy Scouts of America, Great Smoky Mountain Council for at least three years. Preference will be given to applicants planning to attend school in Tennessee and work in the East Tennessee area following graduation. Factors to be considered by the selection committee will be: financial need; general aptitude for advanced educational work; evidence of participation in and service to the community; and the maturity and professionalism of the student, in that order of importance. The selection committee reserves the right to conduct brief interviews with finalists.
