Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults

Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be 35 years of age or younger at time of application.
  3. Must have lost a parent/guardian to cancer or have a parent/guardian with cancer. The parent/guardian must have been diagnosed with cancer when the student was between the ages of 15 and 35.
  4. Must be currently attending, or be accepted to, a two- or four-year college, university, or vocational program (including graduate and professional schools), and must be a degree-seeking student.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  6. Must be a resident of Howard County in Maryland.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who have lost a parent/guardian to cancer or whose parent/guardian experienced a cancer diagnosis when the young adult applicant was between the ages of 15-35. Students must be residents of Howard County in Maryland.

Additional Information: Applicants will be evaluated based on financial need, medical hardship, dedication to community service, commitment to educational and professional goals, and demonstration of how the applicant has used his/her cancer experience to impact the lives of other young adults affected by cancer. The recipient will be required to commit to completing 40 hours of community service.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable. The award will be paid in equal installments over two semesters. Previous award recipients are eligible and encouraged to apply for funding for multiple years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available on the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults website. In addition to the completed application, the following materials must be submitted: one letter of reference in a sealed envelope from a teacher/professor, guidance counselor, employer, or community leader (civic or religious); a typed essay on the topic listed on the application; and a physician verification form or a copy of his/her parent's or guardian's death certificate. Completed applications and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
