Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 40 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international students.
  2. Must be a full-time student.
  3. Must be a citizen of Mexico.
  4. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.
  5. Must attend Texas A&M University.

Description: High school seniors or older students who are citizens of Mexico and plan to enroll full time at Texas A&M University are eligible for this award. The award will cover the difference between in-state and out-of-state tuition.

Application requirements for the Mexican Citizens with Financial Need Waiver are:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
Additional Information: This award is made available by the State of Texas for international students who are citizens of Mexico. It provides receipients the opportunity to pay in-state tuition. Students currently enrolled are also eligible to apply for the award. U.S. citizens and permanent residents are not eligible for this award. Notification of awards will take place approximately three weeks after the deadline date.

Award Amount: The award is for the difference between in-state tuition and out-of-state tuition. This year, in-state tuition is approximately $9,000 and out-of-state tuition is approximately $25,700 for undergraduate students. For graduate students, in-state tuition is approximately $6,400 and out-of-state tuition is approximately $12,800. The recipient must reapply at the end of each award period if he/she wants to be considered for additional awards.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $66,800.

Detailed information on this scholarship is available on the Texas A&M University (TAMU) International Student Services (ISS) website. To apply for this scholarship, the student must submit the International Student Financial Aid Application. In addition to the application, the student must submit a letter that fully explains his/her need for financial assistance. He/she must explain how he/she originally planned to finance his/her education and why he/she is now unable to obtain the funding for completion of his/her studies at TAMU. The student should provide any additional documentation which supports his/her request. The student should not assume the financial aid office is aware of any recent events in his/her home country which might affect his/her funding. The application must be submitted to TAMU, Scholarships and Financial Aid, 2nd Floor Pavilion, 1252 TAMU, College Station, TX 77842-1252.
