Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, based on the annual appropriations by the Illinois General Assembly and the governor.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be resident of Illinois.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen.
  4. Must be enrolled in a minimum of three credit hours per term.
  5. Must be a graduating high school senior or older and have not yet earned a bachelor's degree.
  6. Must enroll in a degree or certificate program at an approved Illinois college.
  7. Must have a federally calculated EFC of $8,999 or less.

Additional Information: The Monetary Award Program (MAP) provides grants, which do not need to be repaid, to Illinois residents who attend approved Illinois colleges and demonstrate financial need, based on the information provided on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). You are not required to submit high school grades or test scores when applying for a MAP grant. A listing of Illinois colleges approved to participate in this program is available online at the ISAC website. ISAC works with the college to disburse funds for this program. The college certifies student eligibility and then submits a payment request on behalf of the student. Depending on the college, students may be responsible for payment until program funds are received. Qualified applicants who are awaiting receipt of funds from this program should contact the Financial Aid Office or Business Office to determine the college's policy.

Award Amount: The actual amount award depends on the calculation of financial need, the cost of tuition and mandatory fees, the number of enrolled hours, and other factors related to the amount of funding provided for the program each year. For the current academic year, the maximum award amount is up to $4,968 annually. Awards are renewable providing the student does not reach the maximum allowed credit hours, the maximum number of MAP Paid Credit Hours is capped at the equivalent of 135. Total awards, including other forms of financial aid may not exceed the students cost of attendance.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,871.

Additional information about how to apply is available from the Illinois Student Assistant Commission (ISAC) website. Students apply for the Monetary Award Program (MAP) by completing a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applications should be completed by students as soon as possible after January 1 for award consideration for the upcoming award year. The student must list the name of the Illinois college at which he/she plans to use the award on the FAFSA. The FAFSA is available at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Please be aware that, based on application volume and appropriated funds for any academic year, grant funding is likely to be depleted prior to the filing deadline dates. Applications received after this deadline may be considered if funding is available.
