Number of Awards & Eligibility: An average of 50 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be African American (black) or of African descent.
  3. Must have an overall grade point average of 3.3 or higher, and must have a major grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  4. Must major in accounting, finance, or business.
  5. Must be a full-time student. Undergraduates must enroll in 12 semester hours, while graduate students must have 9 semester hours.
  6. Must be an active student member of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA). The student's membership dues must have been received by the NABA National Office no later than Dec. 31, 2014. Please note: Regardless of the circumstances, once becoming a professional member, a member is not permitted to return to student status. Graduate students must have entered graduate school immediately after receiving their undergraduate degree in order to maintain student status and be eligible for a scholarship award.
  7. Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program. High school seniors are not eligible.

Description: This award is available for currently enrolled undergraduate or graduate students who are African American (black) or of African descent and are active members of the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA). Students must have an overall grade point average of 3.3 or higher and a major grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

Additional Information: Must be an ACTIVE* NABA student member**, whose membership dues have been received by NABA's National Headquarters no later than December 31, 2019.

Award Amount: $1,500 to 3000 The available awards are as follows: NABA National Scholarship, $1,500; Corporate Partner Scholarships (various), starting at $2,500; and NABA Member Scholarship Awards (multiple), $1,000 to $3,000.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available online from the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. (NABA) website. In addition to a completed online application, the applicant must submit the following supporting documents: a copy of official transcripts through the current fall semester (must be uploaded electronically); a current resume; one letter of recommendation from a member of the accounting/business faculty at his/her college/university or from a non-relative who is familiar with his/her academic and/or professional performance, such as an employer, advisor, faculty, etc. (additional instructions available in the application checklist on the NABA website); a personal biography of 75 words or less; a professional headshot (must be wearing business attire); and a calculation of his/her major grade point average. A worksheet for calculating this information is available on the NABA website. An essay response of 500 words or less is also required. Please note: If the applicant is not a United States citizen, he/she must also submit a clear copy of his/her student/permanent resident visa. The application must be completed online. Mailed applications will not be accepted. Transcripts or letters of recommendation must also be uploaded through the online form. The application and all supporting documents must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on the deadline date.
