Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians & Gays (PFLAG)
$2,000 annually, non-renewable. The student will receive $1,000 for the fall semester, and if all eligibility requirements continue to be met, will receive an additional $1,000 for the spring semester.
The number of awards offered can vary depending on the funding available each year. Last year, 12 awards were given.
Applicants will be judged on the following criteria: academic potential and/or evidence of academic achievement; evidence of participation and leadership in school and community activities; clarity of future goals and determination to achieve; sense of personal integrity, ethical judgment, and honesty; maturity and positive sense of self as a gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender person; service to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community; and his/her financial need and participation in efforts to supplement educational costs. (All financial information will remain strictly confidential). Recipients will also be required to submit a short essay or video describing the experience of being a PFLAG scholar. Preference will be given to applicants who have not previously received a PFLAG scholarship award.
