Number of Awards & Eligibility: Five awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  2. Must reside in southern Arizona.
  3. Must be a high school senior or undergraduate at the time of application.
  4. Must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or as a straight ally dedicated to LGBT causes.

Description: This scholarship is available for current high school seniors and undergraduate students residing in southern Arizona. Applicants must identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or must be a straight ally who demonstrates a commitment to LGBT equality and advocacy.

Application requirements for the PFLAG Tucson Chapter Scholarship Program are:

  • Application form
  • Recommendation letter
  • Essay
  • Transcript or acceptance letter
Additional Information: PFLAG Tucson is pleased to award scholarships in the name Gene Moore, a past chapter president, to LGBT persons from southern Arizona to attend an accredited institution of higher education. One $1,000 scholarship will also be awarded in the name of Mark and Art Woodland, the son and husband of long-time PFLAG member Elaine. Mark passed away in 2010 and Art in 2011. The applications for the PFLAG Tucson scholarships are reviewed by the PFLAG Board of Directors, or by a committee established by the Board. Applications will be judged on an individual basis using only the information provided by the applicant. All applicants will be notified by mail of the committee’s decisions by April 30.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available at the Tucson chapter of Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG) website. In addition to a completed application form and essay responses, students must submit proof of enrollment or acceptance to a college or university, and two letters of reference - one from a teacher or faculty member, and one from an individual who is familiar with the applicant's community service efforts. All application materials and supporting documents must be mailed to the address provided above, and must be postmarked by the deadline date.
