Number of Awards & Eligibility: Three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a full-time student.
  3. Must attend a U.S. college or university during the eligibility period.
  4. Must have been enrolled as an undergraduate student in the spring semester.

Description: The scholarship essay contest is designed for students who are FULL TIME, undergraduate students in an AMERICAN COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY during the Spring 2020 semester.

Application requirements for the Platt Family Scholarship Prize Essay Contest are:

Additional Information: Judging of entries will take place during the fall and the winners will be announced at the Lincoln Forum annual meeting in Gettysburg, Virginia. Checks from the Lincoln forum will be sent to the winners in December.

Award Amount: There will be a first-prize award of $1,500, a second-prize award of $750, and a third-prize award of $500. All awards are made on an annual basis and are non-renewable. The scholarship prize money is designed as a reward for academic excellence. It can be used for any purpose the winner desires.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $918.

To enter, students must submit an essay of between 1,500 to 5,000 words addressing the current year's topic. Further details on the topic are available on the Lincoln Forum website. Essays must be typed and include a works cited and/or bibliography page (endnotes are suggested, but not required). The applicant must also include the following personal information with his/her essay: name of college or university, phone number, address, and email address. The student should note that there is no application form for this contest; his/her essay and contact information serve as an application. Essays may be submitted via postal mail or email, using the addresses provided.
