The Lehigh Valley Section of AWS seeks to assist in the education and careers of young people with an interest in welding. This scholarship is provided to that end, and it is named in honor of Dr. Robert D. Stout, the Emeritus Professor of the Materials Science and Engineering Department at Lehigh University. Professor Stout has long been a leading figure in the welding world. His distinguished career spends nearly 70 years and includes both faculty and administrative positions at Lehigh University, committee participation at AWS, many AWS awards, and even serving as AWS President in 1972.
