Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 12 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a member of his/her local American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Student Chapter/Club and a student member of ASCE in good standing at time of application and award.
  3. Must be a college freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior who will be registered as an undergraduate in the fall term of the year for which he/she is applying.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be enrolled in a ABET-accredited program in civil engineering or a related field.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Current undergraduate students who are majoring in civil engineering and are members of their local American Society of Civil Engineers Student Chapter/Club are eligible for this award. Academic merit and financial need will be considered in award selection.

Additional Information: Scholarships available for award to ASCE Student Members are made possible through the generous bequest of Samuel Fletcher Tapman, M.ASCE, in 1961. The scholarships were established by the Board of Direction in 1961, the first awards being for the academic year 1962-1963. Students may apply for all ASCE scholarships for which they are qualified. Selection is made by the Society Awards Committee or its designee for recommendation to the Executive Committee for final approval. Selection is based on the applicant's justification of award, educational plans, academic performance and standing, potential for development, leadership capacity, ASCE activities, and financial need. Recipients will be notified of selection in May by the Executive Director of the Society.

Award Amount: Up to $3,000 per award  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $36,000.
