$2,250 annually, renewable for up to three additional years for students pursuing a four-year degree or for up to one additional year for students pursuing a two-year degree.
The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 133 scholarships were awarded.
Criteria for scholarship selection are: academic performance/potential, a history of community service, and financial need. Each August, newly selected Mitchell Scholars and their families are invited to the Mitchell Institute's brunch. Senator George Mitchell, Mitchell Institute staff, veteran scholars and board members welcome and congratulate the newest class of Mitchell Scholars. Scholars also have the chance to attend the M.I.L.E. weekend. This activity focuses on the development of professional and leadership skills. The weekends are held once in the summer and once in the winter. Another opportunity for scholars is the summer fellowship. These fellowships provide Mitchell Scholars with stipends that enable them to take jobs that would otherwise constitute a financial hardship. In return, the scholars commit to a community service project.
