In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Tennessee.
  3. Must attend an eligible public or private postsecondary institution in Tennessee.
  4. Must be the dependent child of a Tennessee law enforcement officer, fireman, or an emergency medical service technician who has been killed or totally and permanently disabled due to an incident that occurred in the line of duty while employed in Tennessee.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must enroll full time.
  7. Must be a high school senior or older.

Description: This award is available for Tennessee resident students who are planning to attend a Tennessee public or private college or university. Students must be the dependent child of a Tennessee law enforcement officer, fireman, or an emergency medical service technician who has been killed or totally and permanently disabled due to an incident that occurred in the line of duty while employed in Tennessee.

Application requirements for the Tennessee Dependent Children Scholarship Program are:

Additional Information: The Dependent Children Scholarship Program provides aid for Tennessee residents who are dependent children of a Tennessee law enforcement officer, fireman, or an emergency medical service technician who has been killed or totally and permanently disabled while performing duties within the scope of such employment. The parent must be a Tennessee resident and have been on duty when the incident occurred. The scholarship is awarded to full-time undergraduate students attending eligible Tennessee institutions.

Award Amount: Award amounts are determined based on financial need. Students should contact his/her school's financial aid office for additional details.Awards are made in equal installments each term throughout the academic year and are renewable for up to a total of four years or until the completion of the program of study. Recipients must continue to meet all the eligibility requirements and maintain satisfactory academic progress standards, as determined by the institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
