Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies, all eligible students are considered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Texas.
  3. Must be certified as a blind person or a deaf person by the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services of status.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must attend a public college or university in Texas.
  6. Must be a high school senior or older.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Texas resident students who are blind and/or deaf who attend public colleges or universities in the state of Texas. The student must provide certification from the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services of status as a blind person or a deaf person.

Application requirements for the Texas Blind/Deaf Student Exemption Program are:

  • Certification of blindness/deafness
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letter
Additional Information: The Blind/Deaf Student Exemption Program is a state program, created by the state of Texas, established to help enable blind and deaf students to attend public colleges or universities in the state of Texas.

Award Amount: Provides exemption from the payment of all dues, fees, and enrollment charges. Awards may be renewable providing the recipient maintains satisfactory academic progress, as determined by the institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,538.
