Number of Awards & Eligibility: Awards are very competitive and are based on limited funding. Renewal applicants are given first priority.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Tennessee.
  3. Must plan to attend a Tennessee public or private college or university.
  4. Must have an unweighted cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher.
  5. Must have an ACT of 29 or higher or a SAT of 1280 or higher.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  7. Must plan to enroll full time.
  8. Must graduate from a high school in Tennessee.
  9. Must be graduating high school senior at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for Tennessee high school seniors who are planning to attend a Tennessee public or private college or university. Students must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher and an ACT of 29 or higher or a SAT (CR and M) of 1280.

Additional Information: The Ned McWherter Scholars Program is intended to encourage academically superior Tennessee high school graduates to attend college in Tennessee. Tennessee high school seniors starting their last semester in high school may apply. Awards are very competitive and are based on limited funding.

Award Amount: Up to $6,000 annually. Awards are made in equal installments each term throughout the academic year. Awards are renewable for up to three additional years. Recipients must maintain at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average and attend full-time to remain eligible.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

Applications are available online on the Tennessee Student Assistance Corporation (TSAC) website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit his/her official high school transcript through the seventh semester or fall semester of his/her senior year, and an official ACT or SAT score. Completed application and required materials must be received by TSAC by the deadline.
