Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 30 awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be the child, grandchild, or spouse of an employee or an employee of a TCA member, OR be the child, grandchild or spouse of an independent contractor or an independent contractor affiliated with a TCA member.
  4. Must be a full-time student.
  5. Must be attending an accredited four-year college or university as an undergraduate student in the upcoming fall semester.
  6. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Description: A scholarship from the Truckload Carriers Association will be awarded to any undergraduate in good standing, who is the child, grandchild, or spouse of an employee or an employee of a TCA member, or the child, grandchild or spouse of an independent contractor or an independent contractor affiliated with a TCA member. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Additional Information: The recipient of the scholarship must show financial need, show scholastic achievement, maintain full-time student status, and be an individual of high character and integrity. The scholarship will be awarded without regard to sex, race, color, national origin or religion. The scholarship will be voided on the basis of expulsion or dismissal from school or discontinuance of the education process for more than 12 consecutive months. The scholarship may also be voided if the student does not maintain full-time student status or his/her grade point average drops by more than one point. Also, the trustees reserve the right to withdraw the scholarship at their discretion. Scholarship winners will be posted on the TCA website by 12:00 p.m. ET on July 31.

Award Amount: $2,000 to $6,500 annually, awarded on a per-semester basis. The recipient will receive a portion of the scholarship during his/her first semester, and will be automatically renewed for the second semester upon recommendation of the university and the showing of good academic standing by the recipient. The trustees will mail the scholarship check directly to the university for distribution. Scholarship monies are to be used for tuition purposes only.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,250.

Applications are available on the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) website. As part of the online application, the applicant must submit the following materials: a print-compatible (300 dpi) headshot labeled with his/her full name; an essay of no more than 300 words on how his/her or his/her family member's career in the trucking industry has influenced his/her family life; his/her upcoming semester's course schedule; the name, address and telephone number of the person and department within the college or university to which the scholarship check should be sent for disbursement; and contact information for three references, one of which must be a faculty advisor or professor and another of which must be from another instructor. The applicant may also upload an optional personal statement in video or audio form (no more than one minute in length), explaining why the trucking industry is important to him/her. The student must also request that an official complete transcript of all courses and grades be mailed to the TCA at the address provided. Applications must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. ET on the deadline date.
