Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior to apply for this freshman year award.
  4. Must plan to enroll full time.
  5. Must attend the University of North Carolina Wilmington.
  6. Must graduate from the Lake Waccamaw Boys and Girls Home in North Carolina.
  7. Must have been in need of a long-term placement, preferably at least one school year, due to family problems, parental incapacity or unmanageable behavioral problems in the home.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. incoming college freshmen who are graduates of the Lake Waccamaw Boys and Girls Home and plan to attend UNCW are eligible for this award.

Award Amount: Tuition, fees, and an annual book allowance, valued at approximately $7,200 annually. The award is renewable for up to six semesters.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $7,200.

There is not a separate application for this award. The student will be considered upon admission to the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW). In addition to the completed admission application, the student must submit an essay between 250 and 500 words in length, $75 application fee, official transcripts, the school report form (to be partially completed by his/her guidance counselor), and SAT/ACT scores. If the student’s guidance counselor is unable to complete the recommendation portion of the school report form, the student may submit a recommendation from a core academic teacher. Applications must be submitted by the deadline.
