Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on the number of qualified students.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior planning to attend college for the first time in the fall.
  2. Must be a National Merit Finalist.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must be a resident of the state of Arizona.
  5. Must plan to attend the University of Arizona.
  6. Must plan to complete 30 UA units per academic year.
  7. This award is for U.S. students.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. students who are Arizona residents and National Merit Finalists are eligible for this award. Students must declare the University of Arizona as their first choice.

Application requirements for the University of Arizona National Scholars Award for Arizona Residents are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • $65 fee
  • SAT/ACT scores
Additional Information: This award is offered to the National Scholars who qualify by taking the Preliminary SATs (PSATs) in high school.

Award Amount: $8,000- $12,500 per academic year  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $50,000.

Applications for admission are available on The University of Arizona (UA) website. There is not a separate application for this award. Students will be considered upon admission to the University of Arizona. In addition to the completed admissions application, each student must submit official transcripts, official SAT/ACT scores, and a $50 application fee. The applicant must declare the UA as his/her first school of choice with NMSC per the deadline set by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).
