In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at the time of application.
  3. Must be studying botany and/or pharmacology.

Description: This award is available for undergraduate students studying medicinal botany during a summer semester.

Application requirements for the Zeller Summer Scholarship in Medicinal Botany are:

Additional Information: This scholarship provides financial support to students who show a keen interest in medicinal botany, as evidenced by course work and/or professor recommendations. It was established to encourage summer studies of medicinal botany at the undergraduate level for students enrolled in accredited U.S. colleges and universities following their freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years. Work may award academic credit, may be toward experience in the field or laboratory, or may be part of an internship requirement for graduation. Selection will be made in March by the GCA Scholarship Committee including a medicinal botanist.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available on the Garden Club of America (GCA) website. In addition to the completed application form, the student must submit the following: a short essay explaining how the selected summer program fits into his/her future plans and goals and what he/she hopes to achieve; two letters of recommendation, one each from his/her adviser and a professor who is familiar with his/her work and interests (see the application for details); and a copy of his/her official college transcript. The student should not alter or retype the application, or send any additional materials that are not requested. The application and all supporting documents must be received by the deadline date.
