Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to three awards offered annually. Please note: One scholarship will be awarded to a student from an underrepresented population. Geographic distribution of the applicant pool will be considered. Applicants seeking special consideration for the diversity scholarship should indicate and identify their association with a specific ethnic or cultural group.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident alien.
  3. Must be in his/her third, fourth, or fifth year of undergraduate study. Graduate students are not eligible.
  4. Must be studying landscape architecture.
  5. Must attend a LAAB (Landscape Architecture Accreditation Board)-approved program. A list of accredited programs is available online at www.asla.org/schools.aspx.

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. students who are in their third, fourth, or fifth year of undergraduate study in landscape architecture at a LAAB-accredited institution. Students must be members of ASLA and demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: Please note: All applicants must be student members of ASLA (American Society of Landscape Architects). Information on ASLA membership is available online at www.asla.org/join.aspx. This scholarship fund was established by the ASLA Council of Fellows in 2004 to: 1) aid outstanding students who would not otherwise have an opportunity to continue a professional degree program due to unmet financial need; 2) increase the interest and participation of economically disadvantaged and underrepresented populations in the study of landscape architecture; and 3) enrich the profession of landscape architecture through a more diverse population. Geographic distribution of the applicant pool will be considered. Applicants seeking special consideration for the diversity scholarship should indicate and identify their association with a specific ethnic or cultural group.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Each recipient will also receive a one-year student ASLA membership, general registration fees for the ASLA Annual Meeting and EXPO, and a travel stipend to attend the meeting. Please note: Scholarship recipients are expected to attend the ASLA Annual Meeting to receive their awards.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available on the Landscape Architecture Foundation (LAF) website. The student must apply using the online application system. Please note: There is a $5 (USD) application fee required for each LAF scholarship. Students may apply for multiple awards; however, a separate application fee is required for each. Students must submit the following supplemental application materials for all LAF scholarships: a 4 x 6, 300-ppi color photo in .jpg format (must be a head shot with a plain background); a biography of 150 words of less that describes his/her background, current educational pursuits, future plans, and any other personal interests or activities (must be in PDF, Microsoft Word, or TXT); and a resume of two pages or less that lists education, professional experience, extracurricular activities, and honors and awards (in PDF). The following materials are required for this award, in addition to all aforementioned application materials: a completed Financial Aid Form; an essay of 500 words or less describing how he/she envisions himself/herself contributing to the profession of landscape architecture; and two letters of recommendation, one of which must be from a faculty member. The other letter may come from another faculty member or a non-academic ASLA member. The student will be required to provide contact information for the recommenders, who will be sent instructions regarding submission of the letters. All application materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
