Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be 18 years of age or older at time of application.
  4. Must be a high school graduate or older to apply for this undergraduate award.
  5. Must be pursuing a management career in welding store operations or a welding distributorship.
  6. Must be employed (at least 10 hours a week) at a welding distributorship at the time of application.

Description: This award is available for U.S. undergraduate students who are 18 years of age or older and are pursuing management career in welding store operations or a welding distributorship. Students must be employed (at least 10 hours a week) at a welding distributorship at the time of application.

Additional Information: The applicant must be attending a four-year college or university to qualify for any of the AWS scholarships. Proof of financial need is not required to qualify for this award. Please note: The applicant does not have to be a member of the American Welding Society, but it is preferred.

Award Amount: $3,500 annually, non-renewable; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of four years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,500.

Applications are available online on the American Welding Society (AWS) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must also submit the following: two letters of reference with one letter of reference indicating previous hands-on welding experience; a personal statement; original official transcript(s) sent directly from the college or university (if applying for more than one scholarship, only one transcript must be an original official transcript); verification of enrollment; an essay as specified on the application; and a statement of unmet financial need. Students must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
