Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 10 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of the United States or Canada.
  3. Must be enrolled in a wildlife-related natural resource program.
  4. Must be a full-time student.
  5. Must have at least one semester or two quarters remaining in his/her degree program (completed a minimum of 56 semester hours or 108 quarter hours).

Description: This award is for U.S. and Canadian college juniors/seniors who are planning to major in a wildlife-related natural resources program. Applicants must have at least one semester or two quarters remaining in their degree program

Additional Information: Previous recipients of the Elk Foundation's Wildlife Leadership Awards are ineligible. Each applicant will receive a phone call acknowledging receipt of his/her application. If the applicant does not receive acknowledgment within two weeks, he/she should call Human Resources to confirm receipt of his/her application. Each application will be screened by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation scholarship committee, which will make the final decision regarding the selection of recipients. Wildlife Leadership Award recipients will be announced in April, and scholarships will be awarded at the beginning of the fall semester/quarter.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable. Each recipient will also receive an engraved wall plaque and a one-year membership to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in January for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications and additional information about this award can be found on the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation website. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must have his/her department head/chairperson complete the designated section of the application, and the applicant must enclose two letters of recommendation from faculty in his/her department. The application requires the applicant to write short essays on the following subjects: hobbies and leisure activities; leadership activities; employment experiences; how wildlife issues play a role in the Multiple-Use Act of 1960 and the Forest and Rangeland Renewable Resources Planning Act of 1974; critical conservation issues; the role of hunting in conservation; and a personal statement addressing career goals and objectives. Applications must be mailed, faxed or emailed to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation using the contact information provided. Only typed applications will be accepted.
