Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In prior years, an average of three scholarships were awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be an undergraduate junior or senior or a graduate student.
  4. Must major in accounting.
  5. Must attend a four-year institution in Alaska.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is open to U.S. college juniors and seniors and graduate students who are pursuing a degree in accounting at a four-year institution in Alaska. Scholastic achievement and financial need will be considered in the selection process.

Additional Information: In 1964, the Alaska Society of CPAs established the Paul Hagelbarger Memorial Fund in honor of one of its members. The awarding of scholarships will be based on the scholastic achievement, the student's intent to pursue a career in public accounting in Alaska, and financial need. The scholarship recipients are determined after a review of the applications by the Fund's three Directors, who are elected to a three year term by the membership of the AKCPA. The Directors will announce the scholarship awards by mid-December.

Award Amount: A minimum of $2,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online on the Alaska Society of Certified Public Accountants (AKCPA) website. In addition to a completed application, each student must submit the following materials: a transcript; a letter or resume that includes school activities, honors, awards, accomplishments, employment highlights, and any other important information; and two letters of reference, one of which must be from one of his/her accounting professors. Applications must be mailed to the address provided, and must be received by the deadline date.
