Description: The Texting and Driving Prevention Scholarship is available for undergraduate and graduate students who submit an original essay on driving safety.

Additional Information: Emerson Straw is pleased to provide the Texting and Driving Prevention Scholarship to encourage students to think about ways to stop drivers from texting. The scholarship is available for community college, undergraduate, and graduate students who submit unique and creative essays on the topic of improving road safety. One winner will be selected from all eligible entries and he or she will be notified shortly following the deadline date. The winner's essay may be published in whole or part by the provider as part of a media awareness campaign for the contest and its goal of improving driver safety awareness.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Application instructions and additional information about the Texting and Driving Prevention Scholarship is available at the provided links. To apply for this award, students must submit the following: a resume, a recent transcript, and an original essay. Essays must be 750 words in length and must respond to this year's topic prompt: "Discuss the ways that you personally prevent texting while driving as the laws in place are not 100% effective. What steps do you take that you feel others should be taking as well? How do you plan on spreading these ideas?" All application documents must be submitted as email attachments and must be sent to the listed address no later than the deadline date.
