What is your overall opinion of this school?

It is really difficult to make friends and the clubs and activities aren't very well promoted, so it can sometimes feel like just a two (or more) year waiting period between high school and "real college". The students don't seem to have a real culture of community. And because of the quarter system if you are shy by the time you get up the nerve to actually talk to another student, the quarter is over.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I love De Anza College because the professors are wonderful and always willing to help you succeed. The students care about their education here and it is a positive learning environment with great resources for success. One of my favorite things about De Anza is that it has a diverse student population with many international exchange students. The campus always seems welcoming, friendly, and most importantly safe.

De Anza is an overall diverse, beautiful campus. the campus has many new/ remodeled builidings that adds appeal to visitors. There are so many professors that I could recommend because of their positive impact they left on me when I took their class. Most of the professors care about their students beyond just a teaching level. They really want their students to succeed and take lessons they learned with them as they continue their education path.

De Anza College is a wonderful school; best community college in California. Students are very focused on academics. There are a lot of activities happening if you know where to look. Students are extremely kind and helpful. De Anza College has a strong community of students advocating for future betterment of society. The only minus sign is that there is a lot of bureaucracy, but then, which college doesn't have bureaucracy?

What is your overall opinion of this school?

De Anza College was a very helpful institution in helping transfer students get into four-year universities. The college offered a variety of necessary courses to fulfill academic requirements for my studies. I confess it took me more than the typical two years to acquire a formal degree, however if you are patient enough and adept at wrangling with the administrators, you can get counseling appointments to select courses on time for graduation.

Describe your favorite campus traditions.

De Anza College is best known for its high transfer rate and great financial aid. All of the people I know who are in their sophmore year are already deciding on which college they got accepted into to go to. The others are there because they say that the financial aid is easy to get there than other schools. I know a few people who came to De Anza from West Valley in the fall because they could get more financial aid here.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Me to myself: Don't worry about what other people think of you. That's not punk rock at all. Speaking of punk rock, listen to more of it and start a band. Also, play, write, read, and listen to as much music as you can to finish that demo tape you've wanted to write since you first picked up a guitar. Do it now because you have time. Also, get a job as soon as possible becase having money is helpful. Make sure you try to get experience working with kids so that you can become a camp counselor when you turn 21. Learn about good music schools outside of California because once you leave the state, you will truly be able to live your life as an individual. Also, I want you to understand all of the cliches people throw at you. You are a good person, you are smart, and good looking and confident. Just remember that indtead of hating yourself because it is true. I know you won't believe me and it'll take a while to understand but just keep it in mind and don't let it go to your head, buddy.

What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about De Anza is the rigor of the courses. There is a definite understanding that if one attends De Anza, one should plan to transfer out. I have talked to people who were there to take a few classes after they graduated from universities. They have protested that De Anza's classes were on par with the difficulty of their classes in the latter half of their college careers. De Anza's classes are difficult because the faculty knows that if they want their students to succeed, they must make their students learn firsthand.

What is the stereotype of students at your school? Is this stereotype accurate?

De Anza college is a very diverse college welcoming a wide range of students from different racial backgrounds and international students alike. Perhaps the only stereotype I had going into the school was that since De Anza college is located in the heart of Silicon Valley, the students here might be heavily influenced by the Computer Sciences field. This assumption however, was corrected as I saw a wide range of academic majors and interests here.

Describe the students at your school.

For a community college, the students here are surprisingly engaged. You can tell from the over 75 active clubs on campus that the 30,000 + students here like to be involved and engaged socially and academically.

What are the academics like at your school?

The teachers at this school have an amazing range of academic and professional experience over a wide range of highly respected fields. Their teaching methods are among the best in any community colleges and there is an excellent selection of counselors and staff to assist any student struggling with their education.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Enjoy school and go through with it. Don't skip classes and think that it doesnt hurt to miss one or two, it all catches up. Then life hits you. You won't have time for school as you get older. So enjoy and finish school. It may suck at the moment but it will be for the better in the long run. And once school is done, have fun!

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Do not wait to go to college. Go now, take care of your future now. You will have so much more accomplished by the time you are my age if you take the time to go and get your nursing degree now. College life is not hard, you just have to manage your time between work and school to make sure you get your homework done. I know you can do it. You have the drive, you just need to stop thinking you are not smart enough because you are. Don't let it take you as long as it took me to realize that. You are smart enough and you are worth it. And it's not hard at all to adjust to more school work and making new friends. You have been doing that same thing the past 12 years. Take the plunge!

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about my school is the tiny parking spaces. If the parking spaces were a bit bigger there would be less damage happening to student vehicles.
