The school is great, there is a lot of safety. The school is great. The classrooms are a decent size as that means not too many students in each class and have more time to communicate with the teacher. Housing is good. The food could maybe be better but housing is good if you have nice roommates. On campus there are also places for extracurriculars. Which means there's a gym availabe and theater for drama majors.

When applying to colleges senior year of high school, many people mention CSUN as a basic or safety school. The most common comments are “everyone goes there,” “everyone gets accepted,” “I don't want to see anyone again so that school isn't for me”… at least that's what they said in my school. I was not enthused to go to CSUN at first but now… I have never been so grateful. College is about self growth and loads of responsibility. As freshmen, I was not disciplined, responsible or mature at an adult level. CSUN made the transition easy. There are many programs, events, clubs, organizations and tutoring centers available for their students to take advantage of. One of the programs that helped me the most is the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). Their staff are welcoming, open minded and inspiring. I didn't do that well in high school and ever since, I didn’t feel confident I would succeed. CSUN and EOP created a portal for me to grow confidence, maturity, self discipline, and responsibility. I chose CSUN because it was the most affordable and closest school to be able to go home and help my family. I choose CSUN now because it became a part of my identity. Go matadors!

I have very interested in becoming apart of such Cal-State University because it is local to my family and the business program is outstanding! I would love to learn about accounting, management, marketing, advertisement and finances. Above all, I have committed to such an amazing school and I can't wait to begin working towards my career.

I absolutely loved my experience at CSUN! The professors were very intelligent, but also approachable. I am thrilled I had small classrooms with hands-on professors to give each student the necessary attention to succeed. I commuted my entire time, but the surrounding region is also full of great shops, dining and places to live.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

My overall opinion is that it's a great school, but if you want to be involved on campus, this college might not be for you. Kind of a dry campus. Also, the food quality is average. The only good thing about housing is it having a mini grocery store so you don't have to depend on eating outside.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Mostly a good college for academic content. Many teachers here are very open caring Professors that really help you learn and involve you in the subject. Academic standards are high. However there is little supervision of bad teachers that tend to cross boundaries upsetting or offending students with their very personal biases or prejudices. Teachers say things in classrooms or in private meetings that are completely inappropriate. I could give many examples. A few examples: a male Sociology teacher teacher told a classroom full of young women they should hurry and finish college to have a baby by the time they were 25 and that the ERA (equal pay for women ) would never be passed because more than 50 percent of Americans were not feminists. One Anthropology teacher made remarcks about students keeping a diary of their struggles or their "periods " because it wasn't her job to listen to how they felt. One Biology teacher made open comments about overweight students not comprehending the meaning of obesity. One Sociology teacher did not allow anyone to take an exam at all if you were 10 minutes late. She claimed it would cause cheating leaving you without a grade for one exam even if you had an emergency and could verify it with a note. Advisors cannot help you with complaints about teachers. Nothing is ever followed up on if a complaint is made. Advisors are not well informed about majors. They cannot help you navigate your degree. That will be up to you. Admissions and records personnel can end up complaining to you about not completing your degree quickly enough. This happens because the quicker they get students out and graduating the more openings they have for charging new loans to incoming students. You can pay your own tuition and still be urged to finish asap. Frequently the advice from advisors or administrators turns out to be wrong. They do not know what the rules are. I was once told I should request graduating without completing my major. That was completely false and not possible, nor did I want that . More than once I was told to take a class that was not on my list of requirements just to fill up a class . It would have been a waste of money and time to take a course not required for my major. Teachers can also be disengaged in giving positive or constructive feedback. You are practically expected to teach yourself the course by taking home readings or assignments. There are excessive readings for you to do causing hours of homework daily. There will be no down time if you are taking 3 classes because the homework and group work assignments are essential to passing and take hours of your time. Most grading is criticism about what was done wrong not corrections on what could improve with your work leaving students to feel that no matter how hard they work nothing is ever correct or enough. Hard to understand what is happening in this college except extreme unhappiness from a portion of teachers leading them to do the minimum they can do to help you understand the material. This college is a self teach institution with little or no Professor involvement. CSUN is a lovely campus with many nice facilities but is overshadowed by the unhappiness or lack of courtesy coming from a few teachers and a few advisors or administrators, especially evident in the last 5 to 6 years. The University was a bit better prior to that. Rules have changed causing frustration amongst employees of the University and their feelings about those changes appear to be taken out on the students. It is very sad, frustrating and anxiety provoking to be a student here. There are still many good experiences that can happen with teachers at this University. Some are wonderful teachers that inspire you to learn or to express yourself through critical thinking and encourage and answer all questions. Some departments function better than others. CSUN has a reputation for offering a good education in Business, Engineering, Biology, Sports and Kinesiology with scholarships available, Communications and The Arts -Theater and Music. Some departments are lacking in resources or in quality of education for students. If you are unhappy with an advisor ask to see someone else so you can get the proper information to complete your degree or visit the head of the department you have an interest in. The student center is a wonderful resource. The library and librarians are a great help. They really help you. The gymnasium and recreation center is brand new. Plenty of on campus activities and opportunities. National Honor Society is a wonderful program. Join it and take part in that experience. It is inspiring to hear lectures from successful professionals. They give really good advice. Many other optional programs on campus to take part in. Overall I would say this college has the potential to be an excellent college. It needs some improvements. As far as learning , if you do the assignments and show up for class you will get what you need out of it. Worth taking a tour of the campus and checking it out. I loved the Anthropology department. Most professors are attentive and helpful. Anthropology has many opportunities to travel, take internships and get real world experience. If you like social sciences this is a great degree to have.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

California State University, Northridge, in my opinion, is an excellent school and has made me feel like a proud student upon entering the campus. The classroom size is relatively small, which I prefer since large groups tend to make me feel anxious. The university also provides an abundant amount of free resources for students to take advantage of. Such as the Oasis Center where students can set aside their worries and destress for awhile with massage chairs, acupuncture, and the nap pods.
