I had a really bad time in high school. Everyone was a part of a clique and no one really cared about you unless you had money, or you had an older sibling to get alcohol from your friends. When I set out to find a college, I looked for somewhere that I would fit in and find a home that I felt welcome in. I found exactly that at Lycoming College. As soon as I stepped foot on the campus everyone was so friendly and welcoming. The professors always go out of their way to help you in classes and make sure you are enjoying your college experience. All the staff encourages you to grow, travel, and experience things outside of Pennsylvania. While some of the buildings on campus that are outdated does not stop the staff from making sure that you have what you need to succeed at this college. Classes will be taken out of the classroom and into the community so that the student body has a solid understanding of how things work outside in the real world. You get to know everyone in your major because the class sizes are so small. This allows for study groups to organize easily and most of the time the professors will also build time into their schedules to come back to the campus to help the study groups. Overall Lycoming is a wonderful college that I highly recommend to anyone looking for small class sizes but a large family.

One of Williamsport's best-kept secrets. Growing up here I never realized the great opportunities this college could afford me. If anyone was looking for a good college with connections to get their start on life, I would definitely have Lycoming on my list for them!

Veronica

Lycoming had the friendliest staff out of every college I have visited. They are all very helpful and accessible. The school gives a lot of opportunity to try many different courses as well. The best part was how much the teachers really seemed to love being there.

The school has fantastic faculty who are easily accessible and committed to helping students make the absolute most of their education. Ambition goes a long way at Lycoming College. I had a great experience with my department as well (Political Science). Dr. Payne and Dr. Williamson were fantastic. It is worth highlighting that they both stress an objective approach to political science - cut out the normative stuff. I generally felt the same with the economics department. This made a major impression on me and I'm glad I didn't pay for indoctrination. If you're going for sociology/psychology/anthropology/or history, this is a different story. Personally, I felt very well equipped to continue my graduate education after completing my undergrad here. I secured a high quality internship right before graduating. I definitely recommend Lycoming College to people who are ambitious and are serious about making the most of their education. If you're in it to party and get the social "college experience" that is another matter. Reslife and security crack down on parties a lot! The weekends are usually pretty dead unless you've got a group of friends to regularly do stuff with. On that note, there are a lot of good bars, restaurants, and entertainment venues around the college. Downtown Williamsport is actually pretty nice. The school has been making serious efforts to promote healthier extracurricular stuff like weekend trips to different cities/outdoor events/etc. Greek life is fairly popular - but not my thing (IMPORTANT: fraternities/sororities don't have their own houses so the school seriously cracks down on them). Overall, Lycoming will definitely give you more of an academic experience. If that's what you want, give Lycoming serious consideration.

  3. What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

I would consider the worst thing about Lycoming College to be the price of its tuition. I love Lycoming, the professors are wonderful, it is one of the few schools with my intended major and I am extremely dedicated to my academics. This being said it would be very hard for me to leave Lycoming and I definitly do not want to, I am trying to pay for it to the best of my ability. But the cost of Lycoming has given me many stressful nights thinking about how I will pay off all of my loans in the future.

  10. What kind of person should not attend this school?

I would recommend that a person who is accustomed to big city life and wants the large campus feel not attend Lycoming College. I would reccomend this because Lycoming is a very small campus with about 1200-1400 students. The class sizes are small and comfortable with a lot of interaction between professers and students. Lycoming College is located in Williamsport Pennsylvania which is one of the larger cities in the area but there is not much around it. A fifteen minute could easily take you out of the city and into the woods.

  11. What kind of person should attend this school?

A person who would strongly benefit from small class sizes and being a "person" and not a "number" to his or her professors should absolutely look into Lycoming. However, I think it is imperative to someones considering Lycoming to truly investigate their financial aid packages, as it is a rather expensive institution.

  13. What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

Some of the professors are very Christain or conservative and teach in that direction. Religion is fine, overt propaganda of a religion is not what I enrolled in school for.
