If I could give advice to my old (admittedly not-so-wise) high school senior self, there are three things I would tell him, and from order of least important to most, although I think they’re are vital to a good clean transition into college. Firstly, I would suggest seeing what Financial Aid you’re eligible for, so fill out the form, online even, and find out. The sooner the better as to avoid any unexpected errors upon filling it out, etcetera. Secondly, I would say that I should really get my butt on over to the college help office early in the school year, not late! This one, as much a pain as it seemed, would have spared me a great deal of confusion which eventually led me to going there anyhow, although almost too late to fix certain issues. Lastly, and I would emphasize this one to myself: Make a career decision before you go to college. It would allow you to get as early a start towards your intended field as possible. Also, and perhaps just as importantly, it would let you avoid wasting valuable financial aid money on classes you might end up not needing.
South Texas College is a campus that does extremely well considering both its size and the financial needs of their students, and has served me well at both creating an encouraging active learning environment as well as encouraging a positive future for its students.
I believe that as long as you have a GED or a High School Diploma you qualify to register and take classes in South Texas College; that one good thing about it. South Texas College is also known for providing you with financial aid, they also have great advisors, student help and great volunteer students who really do help you with any subject that you are having trouble with. The school aslo provides us with great computer labs for us to use when ever nedded other than that the school itself is a great enviroment to be in.
The educators. They are professional, give coursework that is challenging as it is engaging, and are not afraid to help (and go out of their way for) their students. While I have few complaints for my school, I regard my professors the highest.
The only defect that I can up with for my school is that parking space is limited and in order to get a parking spot near the school you need to get there super early or else you will have to park far away or at times you won't find a parking spot at all.
