What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would tell myself, to look at a school that has a little bit of everything. A school that has a social life, great people, focus studying, much academic help, study space, and a great atmosphere. Remember, the more comfortable you feel, the better your experience will be. i would also recommend choosing a school with great diversity, so that you can be exposed to other's culture. It is great when you learn from someone you didnt expect. Another tip i would give would be to talk, make lots of friends in all your classes, get involved with clubs and with student life on campus. You will build your support system for the future. Keep in mind that the more people you get to know the better you will feel. Make sure you dont forget about your studies, there is a time for school and play. If you differentiate well, you will do good. find yourself, discover who you are and remember that college life happens once in a lifetime. Be responsible, alert, and patient.

What's unique about your campus?

The best thing about my school is the diversity. people of all races, backgrounds, and religions attend this school. There isnt a dominance of one race over another. People here are friendly, nice, supportive, and all around cool people. Everyone is very friendly and outgoing, i think this is really important when choosing a school, because you need to feeel comfortable in order to study well and do good. Good friends, can really make a difference in your college experience.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing would have to be, the first two weeks of the semester and the long lines for financial aid and the registrar's office. people are all trying to pay, and get their financial aid at the same time, and the long lines are hectic and long. that's why its best to pay online, buy parking permits online as well. Those lines can get nerve wracking, but other than that, everything is good around campus.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The number one advice would be to stay true to yourself. You are very unique and special person and trying to be like someone else will not benifit you. There will always be someone smarter than you, better looking, or more popular. When you stay true to yourself it will make it easier for you to stay on task and focus on your goal than worrying about somewone else's. I would also take time to relax and enjoy myself after all we only have one life to live and a GPA will not matter if you are stressed out, ill or even dead. It is important to study hard and get good grades, but that is not all you should focus on in life. There should be a balance of the two. Last, but not least is to always be prepared. Do not wait for the last minute to do a paper or an assignment. This only will stress you out more. When you are prepared, it will make it easier to get through your classes and graduate!!

What's unique about your campus?

The best thing I consider the best at my school that it is culturally diverse and very accepting. No matter who you are you are welcomed with open arms and will find someone who is similar to you.

What kind of person should not attend this school?

The kind of person who should not attend this school is one who is not cuturally diverse or do not accept or feel comfortable bieng around people who are different then them. You have to have an open mind to other people and thier ideas to make it here at Cal State Dominguez or you will have a hard time learning.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Be prepared for a terrific experience in the life and times being on campus. Get into alot of activities and have fun. Do not be so serious that you miss the fun part of being a student in a University. I just wish I was younger.

The best thing about my school is that instructors care about the learning process. Even though there were alot of furloughs the instructors seem to understand and really tried to be helpful.

Describe how your school looks to someone who's never seen it.

My school is small and intimate, most students of the same major get to know one another and share the same classes.

Describe the students at your school.

Classmates are friendly but tend to keep to them selfs.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Learn how to study and plan your time. Being a full time student is very demanding not to mention the other activties outside of school like work and volunteering. Stop procrastinating and listen to your professor because they're are honestly only trying to help you.

Commuter school with mostly non-traditional college students, perfect for the student with a busy outside life.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

When someone is in high school there is always someone who tells you how college will be and the things you need to know to succeed. Now that i am in a 4 year University i have gain alot of knowledge on how things work in a university. If i could go back and talk to myself theres alot of advices that i will give myself that would help me get through college. Ill tell myself that things are much different from high school and that you always have to be on top of your school work because if you miss just one work it could make your score low. Also that visiting a counselour is the best thing to do because they help you out on choosing just the right classes and they care about your education. Lastly I would just tell myslef to never procrastinate and not leave everything to the day before it is actually due because its not a smart choice. You dont learn by reading at the last minute and that can affect your grades.

What kind of person should attend this school?

I believe that any person should attend this school. Theres alot of different people there and sometimes its fun to learn about other peoples cultures. Wether your shy or crazy this is the best school, the staff really care on making your learning experience unbeliavable.

What do you brag about most when you tell your friends about your school?

There are some things that i always brag about when i tell my friends about my school. one would be on how the classes get filled up so quick and you have to hope you get an adding number the first day of school. Also how they offer only 1 class for a certain subject.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I would definitely say that I should have focused more on my academics then my athletics. I would have probably tried to stay focus throughout all of high school instead of taking an easy my senior year. Knowing how important college is now to my future I would say in generally I should have taken high school way more seriously and definitely should have not jsut get grades that would get me out of high school. No matter what anyone could accomplish going to college as long as you try and you really want to make something of your future.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

when it comes to making the right choice about college, i narrowed it down by praying, thinking about how comfortable i would feel at the school based on size, and finally whoever offered the most scholarship money. Take time out to schedule campus tours so you can get a feel of what it will be like as a student there. while there, ask yourself, "could i really call this place home for the next 4-5 years?" after you have visited your campuses and have looked over who is offering you the best scholarship, just pray and leave it in God's hands! He will never lead you wrong. if your first choice doesn't work out, dont get discouraged! instead praise God because He saw something in the school that wasn't right for you. Finally, once you have made a decision, dont let anyone tell you. "you cant or shouldn't go there." people will try to tell you anything to persuade you to do what they think is right, but its YOUR future NOT theirs, remember that! Be Blessed& i'm praying for you!

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

i wish i would have known that i needed rain boots and that the weather is crazy! one day it might be warm and windy and the next day we might be having a hail storm and a tonado warning.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about my school has to be trying to make sure that your financial aid is in order. at the beginning of each semester there is always a bunch of students who get their classes dropped because of something financial aid has misplaced. it also takes forever for scholarships to get posted which makes it even longer for us to get our refund checks back.
