We Asked Students, What's your overall opinion of this school?

Phil

This is for the NYC campus of which I went to the Union Square campus...which I believe is now shut down and consolidated into a new Battery Park location. It should tell you something that the schools former location quietly shut down and is no longer in existence as the school was pretty much a mess being the best word I could use to describe the previous location. I am honestly not even sure if they still offer directing and filmmaking classes at the new Battery Park location, as I don't know where they would fit all of those classrooms, but they definitely have acting classes there. I would NOT recommend this school for ANY discipline long term. I would ONLY recommend this school if you are new to the country of the united states and just want to experience NYC for a few weeks or something. Beyond that the qualify of the education and the quality of the school name and degree...in this country...is nearly worthless. The first 4 or 8 weeks are useful and beyond that going to a long term program at this school would also be a complete waste of time and money. Going to this school could RUIN your career and set you back a lot of time and money so DONT DO IT if you have ANY other option. Even if you feel you DONT have any other option STILL DONT DO IT unless its only for a short term 4 or 8 week program as that is all this school is qualified to be teaching quite frankly. Essentially the problem is that there are multiple quality directing and filmmaking schools in NYC such as NYU, Columbia being two of the best in the WORLD and then you have SVA, CUNY, Brooklyn College and other reputable programs as well. When someone graduates from lowly NYFA they have to then compete against the people with the NUY and Columbia connections (no chance) and on top of that people with better educations at SVU, CUNY, Brooklyn College, and now Steiner School of Cinema as well (all better so again...almost no chance.) NYFA is about the worst film school in NYC and when trying to get a job you will be on the bottom of the ladder with no chance of getting up. Near 0. Same with acting. There are about 50 acting schools in NYC probably better than NYFA. and cheaper too. You would be better of not going to NYFA, paying rent, and taking classes at almost ANY acting school, and you would actually be SAVING MONEY and getting a BETTER education for yourself. NYFA is a semi-scam school that is run for-profit and is a complete debacle when it comes to being taken seriously as a school, and getting jobs for its students. (It has 0 ability to get you a job as its graduates often accomplish nothing in the industry, move onto other industries altogether after failing, or don't even reside in this country to do anything here.) I only went for 8 weeks and still feel like I wasted time and money relying on the fact that I had some "film school" experience instead of going to further school so I ended up essentially wasting many months anyway until I realized there is no shortcut and if you want a truly quality filmmaking education you must NOT go to NYFA and expect it to get you any kind of job. Quite frankly this school is lucky it has not been shut down yet, and I feel sorry for anyone that attends it.

Starting off with the positives; NYFA has some amazing Teachers. They are all working hard in the film and theatre industry and are very knowledgeable and inspiring. But, NYFA lacks greatness in their Management, I have found faculty, other than teachers, to be very disinterested in their jobs.

The New York Film Academy offers many opportunities

Katelynn

It's an amazing school the teachers they hire really know what their talking about and always make their classes fun and informational. We do lots of games that pertain to our lessons. There are a lot of concentration and impulse pieces that we do as well which get our creative juices flowing.
