What is your overall opinion of this school?

All in all, I am a fan of UC Berkeley. Admittedly, it's not the school for everyone; some classes are enormous, the neighborhood is definitely more city-like (with the pros and cons that come with it), and, of course, the academics are rigorous. However, the school is an excellent place to get inspired. There are opportunities and challenges everywhere that you choose to look for them, and there's always a fantastic person to talk to, whether that be the professors or fellow students.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

UC Berkeley is one of the most academically rigorous institutions in the United States. The culture is very competitive across many major and, for that reason, students seem to always either studying, applying to jobs and programs, or participating in extracurricular activities. I believe UC Berkeley is a place that offers students a wide range of opportunities to grow and develop both socially and professionally. Though UC Berkeley is also known for being a stressful place, I am thankful for the opportunities offered to my colleagues and I. I do think that the University needs to expand student facilities such as the Recreational Sports Facility and find a way to improve student housing as it is very expensive in the Bay Area.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I am currently a summer bridge student and will be an incoming freshmen in the fall. I have already taken 60 college credits during my high school years at a community college so navigating around what classes to take in the fall is more difficult. The college of L&S everyone comes in "undeclared", I feel the college adviser hasn't been the most helpful but you can reach out to people here, this school is more about you finding opportunities and opening doors for yourself. Overall yes there is a lot of homelessness but the learning environment is very different here, its intense and mind blowing but you have to know the things you like first I would suggest.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

Berkeley is praised as the #1 Public University in the world, and although, I like to brag about this, it is also lacking in a variety of areas. I am part of the Latinx community on campus and the institution underserves those that come from an under privileged background. For those of us that didn't attend a private high school or who do not have a trust fund to fall back on, it is difficult to be a student there sometimes because we are not on the same level of knowledge as most of our white privileged classmates. Yes there are a ton of amazing Latinx organizations and Latinx clubs that we can join that will help make the experience as a minority and first generation student better, but UC Berkeley needs to do a better job at accommodating minority students on campus. The classes there are amazing though and I love learning there. There are a lot of protests but most of them are not organized by Berkeley students. It is outside organizations that come onto our campus and use it as a stage, disrupting classes.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

The University of California, Berkeley stands up to its reputation. It has been the #1 public university in the world for decades because of its assurance to give students the full college experience. UC Berkeley develops students' academic rigor, spiritual development, political awareness, and global consciousness. There are some stereotypes that the outside world may seem as negative, but once you become a BEAR, the faculty, classmates, and you are indirectly grooming yourself to becoming a leader in the real world. UC Berkeley is largely recognized for its history of activism and "hippies". No one is peer pressured, and you can choose to not be active. There are constant seminars, classes, and movements to become socially conscious or to develop one's activeness. UC Berkeley is a public university so the class size is huge, but spots do fill up fast. It is important to have back-up classes and to be open to trying/learning new things. UC Berkeley has a favorable reputation for getting their students into their top graduate/doctorate schools or careers. It may seem competitive, but everyone on campus always lend a helping hand when it comes to the rigorous academics. I highly encourage anyone, if given the chance, to become a BEAR.

Amazing school with tons of opportunities available for students. The Professors are truly amazing with incredible lectures each day. There are tons of research opportunities and many students willing to help each other out. The academics can be challenging, but that only teaches students to go above and beyond and feel even more satisfied with the education they are getting.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

It is a great school, however academics are extremely difficult to excel in, especially in lower division courses due to grade deflation and giant class sizes. However, the people here tend to be really nice especially once you integrate in yourself in organization. People are bright and motivated which is amazing, but it can feel very daunting lonely without a solid support system.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I am a transfer student so my opinion may not apply to those lucky enough to be accepted as Freshman. I am a Women's Studies major so I also won't have the same experience as an Engineer or Biology major. Of course on campus housing is crazy expensive, small, outdated and not very safe. Off campus housing is also crazy expensive and many students have been preaching about the housing crisis for students. This has forced me to still live at home and drive over an hour almost every day. It's still not affordable even when splitting a room with a person. I've never been to a Cal game but they are very intense. In all honesty, I haven't felt incredibly included on campus and I haven't really made any friends which also has to do with not living closer to campus. As a female I don't feel safe enough on or near campus to hang around the area. There have been a lot of campus violence and break ins for me to stay after the sunset. The campus has not really acted on the homeless coming on campus from the city after dark. Most professors are really understanding of situations and are very easy to reach.

Even tho i am just a visitor, i have done my research on the campus as I plan to attend in a couple years. I have found the campus to be absolutely beautiful, and perfect for someone like me. There were no disappointments, and i cant wait to go again.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

UC Berkeley suffers from inflexible and inaccessible administration, and students often have trouble navigating the bureaucracy to get the help they need. However, the school is full of activity and there are unlimited opportunities in everything you can imagine. The people here are down to earth, and what I love most about the institution is the focus on public service. There are numerous faculty, staff, and students here who truly care about social impact and giving back to the community, and that inherited sense of service is something that I will forever have.
