The campus is small but that invites that small community atmosphere. You have the opportunity to become very close with people and you often rely on eachother since there isn't much to do. The downside to this is that after you've met everyone- that's it and if they don't float your boat you're at a bit of a loss. The atmosphere is fun and people get very creative with how they spend their time. In winter the boys at my dorm created a ski "ramp" out of snow and skied down it. Teachers are into research and always have opportunities for students to get Involved. The outing club is amazing and provides so many activities for students. I went turtle tracking with my teacher for wood turtles. It was really fun. I went white water rafting in Millinocket for $10!! The movie theatre is down the street and you can walk to it which is great. If you do have issues with anyone on campus the support system is dynamite and they really want to make sure you feel comfortable and safe. Ralph, the school counselor, is amazing to speak to especially if you get home sick since presque isle is pretty isolated. The lakes close to the school are great to relax by. The rolling mountains and hills that surround the whole town make for a perfect picture view everywhere you go. There is also a park close to school if you'd like to go for a run and trails around the campus. All around its not a bad school especially if you keep yourself focused on your studies and out of the drama that is inevitable.
I think it is a great school. The number of students isn't overwhelming and the professors are always around to help. This has been my dream school since I was 15 years of age and it definitely lived up to my expectation.
My overall opinion of University of Maine at Presque Isle, is great. I am able to use the facilities to better myself, like the gym at Gentile Hall. I know a lot of people who are currently enrolled, so if I were to go there next year for my first year of college, I wouldn't feel out of place. It is close to home, so I wouldn't have to stay in a dorm room all year. I would definitely go there if I didn't already have a top college in mind.
At the University of Maine at Presque Isle there is not a lot to do. The sports teams and facilities I’m not well-maintained ends there’s not much equipment to be used for any support. The food on the campus is not appetizing whatsoever, they need to work on getting food out and ready and actually cooked not have done. The classes I have taken are very difficult because I have a language barrier with on the professors, and I am paying to listen to another professor gives his own opinion not any other opinion for the class . And Prescott there’s not much to do only a select amount stores you can go to and enjoy your weekend. Presque Isle is very far away from every where else in the state of Maine and it is very hard to communicate places.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for University of Maine at Presque Isle is 86%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.
Make friends right away. Stay out of your dorm room. Go to every single event you see a flier for. Do every bit of homework you're assigned. Get to know the people in career services. Join clubs right away and find a couple that you would like to be president of by your senior year. Take enough classes to graduate in four years. Advocate for yourself, stick up for yourself, and keep track of your finances. Now is the time to practice these skills.
I wish I had known that they didn't have a good Disabilities program. I had back surgery and when my medical issues got worse my advisor advised me that college may not be my best option and I should look for other options. Luckily I went to the community college and got my AS degree first and trasfered back in so I could graduate. I am now enrolled in a masters program, but if I had known my medical issues would put me behind I would have found a school with a better program to help me.
There isn't much to do for fun. Gentile Hall (the fitness building) is the most exciting with a rockwall, pool, gym, and fitness center.
The classes are small, the professors are helpful, and you make a lot of great friends here.
UMPI is small, the professors are very friendly and willing to work with you and the teacher to student ratio is small so they are able to be personal.
The best thing about my school is the people. From teachers to students, everyone is friendly, helpful, and always have time to share a conversation or just a laugh with you. The staff are amazing, knowledgeable, and are always willing to go the extra mile to answer your questions in a timely manner. The professors are at the top of their fields, innovative, and are passionate about what they teach. The other students are wonderful and diverse, and always make you feel included.
My classmates are quite honestly, a mixture of many different backgrounds, educations, experiences, but with a common interest in progressing in science.
What makes my school unique is the emphasis on environmental stewardship in comparison to other schools I considered.
A big city person.
This school is currently best known for the amount of student teachers we have each semester. This school has a huge amount of people that plan to be teachers either at the elementary level or secondary level. Since the university is so close to Canada we also get many canadians that come across the border and try to get there teacher cetification. If they come across the border they can get it in one year but if they stay in Canada many times it takes two years.
Any student who loves an individuaized work enviorment, energetic and knowledgeable teachers, and a beautiful natural surrounding would love this school. The kind of people who work hard but also know how to have fun would do great here. This school is helpful and kind, and incoming freshmen as well as nontraditional students would be comfortable here.
