Describe the students at your school.

My classmates are great friends, however, not very career driven or dedicated to making the most of their college experience.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

The advise that I would give myself is to apply yourself as diligently as you can and really take the time to ensure that your study habits are up to par. You need to learn to be more independant while you still have the comforts of home before you leave for college and are basically completely on your own. I would also tell myself to take as many advance placement classes as possible to help the transition into college be less stressful.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

The worst thing about the University of Charleston is the fact that they reel you in to attending their school with promises of how their educational process far exceeds anyone elses, when in reality they are just a private school that charges way too much too attend. Unfortunately, if you transfer to another school, your grades from classes already taken will not transfer with you so you actually start your college years over.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

When looking for the right college there are so many to choose from. Many times you come across five or six thinking that all of them are the "right one". Sometimes it gets to the point where you have to choose between two or three colleges, knowing that the final decision determines the beginning of the rest of your life. Honestly, it isn't anything to stress over. Yes, it is always good to start the college search in the early years of high school, but even if you don't understand that everything is still going to be okay. When it comes down to making the final choice, don't base it off of what you think you want your freshman year to be like. Think bigger and think beyond. Most likely, you will spend the next four years at the college of your choice. Even on college visits things aren't always as they seem so don't go in with those freshman expectations. Be open to trying new ways of fun, new friends, and a new kind of life. College is what you make it so be sure to make it worth something you're proud of.

What's unique about your campus?

If in fact you do get involved, it is very easy to make lifetime friends. Many of the people there are extremely nice and fun to be around. The more friends you make, the more things you have to do and at that expense, Charleston doesn't seem as bad as it used to be. Unlike other schools, I feel as though the relationships you build at Charleston with other students and faculty really does last forever.

What's the most frustrating thing about your school?

The most frustrating thing about Charelston is that there isn't really much there to do. It's such an expensive school, but it is so small and majority of the people who attend are from West Virginia. The campus lot is always empty on the weekends and at times it can be extremely boring.

What is your overall opinion of this school?

I love the teachers at UC because they are so helpful and understanding. I find it easy to learn subjects here because it is a small school and the student to teacher ratio is just right! I spend most of my time in my dorm room studying because college is ten times more challenging then high school! The most recent controversy on campus is the smoking huts and rules that go along with them. The main rule is that no one can smoke on campus unless they are inside of the smoking hut. One nice thing about UC is the club RHA. RHA host town hall meetings which allows the student body to voice their opinions about what ever topics they have concerns with to the cabinet!

Describe the students at your school.

most students that attend UC work hard on their studys and playwhen they can.....

Is the stereotype of students at your school accurate?

No everyone I have met at UC is very nice and helpful but every once in a while you will find a few stuck up people but that happens everywhere and not just UC!!!!!

What are the academics like at your school?

As a pre pharmacy major, I feel that it is an incrediable program. The teachers are very helpful and they make sure that you are on track with what you need to be doing. UC has a fast track and tradition pre pharmacy program which allows students to finish at whatever pace they choose.

What are the most popular student activities/groups?

UC has lots of organizations and those organizations host lots of activities through out the year to make campus life more fun and enjoyable!!!!

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

To find the right college for yourself, you need to find a college that feels right when you visit the campus. Feeling right on the campus is the most important thing because you spend so much time there. You also need to figure out what you want to do with your life, not exactly what career you want, but a area that really intrests you and find a college that offers several different things that you are interested in. It is also important to decide what size of a college that you feel comfortable with. If you like knowing most everybody then a small campus is for you, whichis also nice because you can roll out of bed fifteen minutes before class and make it on time. If you prefer more people around, then a big campus is for you.

What kind of person should attend this school?

Anyone can attend this school. It is very open and accepting to anyone. There is an extra-curricular activity for every different kind of person.
