My first ever college experience was at Southwestern Illinois College, my intended major was Nursing but since not only was there a waitlist to get in but the next enrollment didn't start until the next fall which is unfortunate for me. This is the reason why I have decided to leave and transfer into another school.
I feel like the school as a whole could become more involved with extra school curricular’s such joining clubs ect. Overall the professors give the students the one on one attention they need to pass the class. The advisors on the campus help the students understand the courses we should be taking that a-line with our major saving me as well as others money in the long run. Southwestern Illinois College is a great school to attend.
It's a decent school that is cheaper than a university and am hoping to prepare for the university life. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. Some of the classroom sizes are good but some of them are really small. One of my classes has 10 students and that makes it hard to do some group work. And because that one class is so small, the class is only available once a year. I think some other classes are like this which makes it difficult for some students like myself.
The programs are vigorous and exciting and all the faculity and staff are friendly and helpful. There are three campuses and each has a success center where students can receive free tutoring if need be. There are many clubs which students can participate in, and events that are arranged just for students enjoyment.
The fall 2020 acceptance rate for Southwestern Illinois College is 100%. That means, out of _____ applications received in 2020 , _____ students were offered admission. The number of males who applied was _____ vs the number of females which was _____.
If I could go back and talk to myself as a senior I would tell myself to treasure every day of high school. Try and cherish the time you have at school with all of your friends instead of trying you rush yourself to get out of school everyday. I would also tell myself to really appreciate the opportunities that you have in high school. In high school there are so many people that will do anything at all to help you succeed. I would go back and tell myself to give every effort to focus in one getting to the college level, in academics as well as athletics. But most of all i would tell myself that everything will figure itself out in time and not to spend the whole year worried what your going to be doing for the rest of your life.
SWIC is like a family, they may frustrate you sometimes, even annoy you, but you can always count on them to help you out, and provide what you with exactly what you need.
Very caring, compassionate group of young men and women!
I wish i knew that i should have worked harder during my prior education to attend a better school
The worst part about school was not knowing anyone and being 900 miles away from my family and friends.
Students that want to transfer to 4-year college. Starting will give a great chance to save on money by taking classes that transfer. Also everyone one needs some kind of college to survive the world now. Just by getting an Associated Degree in something you are interested in will help in life. This college is low on the cost for a great education.
Trouble makers
My school is known for having really great programs for students. They have a program for just about anything a student would want to be. They have a great athletic program and music program as well. The choir is really great and full of very talented people.
The teachers are easily the best thing about my school. I have heard many horror stories of students from different colleges being taught by teaching assistants. Others have tales of indifferent professors focused more on their own research than teaching. At SWIC the teachers care and genuinely want you to learn. A lot of them are highschool teachers that also teach here. It's amazing to know that you don't have to worry about getting a bad teacher when you sign up for a class.
The most frustrating thing about the Belleville campus would be the set-up of the tutoring center and the set-up of the admissions office. They keep you on a time limit that they often remind you of, which makes you feel like you're either in their way or not that important. The other campus branches aren't like that.
I think what makes SWIC so unique is that as small as this school is, we have kids come from all over the place to get their associates degree here. Also, our music students are the best ambassadors SWIC has. Marketing frequently uses music students for their catalouge covers and ad's that are put in local movie theaters. It's very close to home.
I brag about how amazing all of the professors are. They return all of our assignments the following week.
