For being a community college, Sandhills is a great place to get a two year degree. The campus is well kept, and I feel extremely safe. There aren't many fun activities to do, and student involvement isn't that great. Sandhills is an excellent start for an associates degree if students are looking to transfer.

Sandhills Community College is a great start to entering into the lifestyle and expectations that surround a full time College. Although the ride to and from the campus can be long, it is worth the daily experiences and learning activities that are in each of my classes. Not only do these make a good environment for the students and staff, but there are also plenty of opportunities for students and staff to enjoy their time outside of the classroom.

Overall, Sandhills Community College is a good school. The curriculum does not usually challenge me personally. Frankly, I am only at this school so that I can save money and apply for scholarships so that I can go to Liberty University next Fall. On a positive note, the students and staff are all very friendly. The campus is nice and easy to navigate. I especially am thankful for the low tuition and how they emphasize financial aid.

I think Sandhills is a very good school, the school and it's staff members care about their students and want to ensure that they get the best education possible. They understand that they are teaching the future leaders of our country and they take that into serious consideration in making sure the students get what they need from this school to accomplish their dreams.

Sandhills Community College should be the golden standard for every community college. I have not met a more concerned, welcoming, and knowledgeable staff anywhere else. Sandhills is full of faculty that are willing to help students and want every student to succeed if a faculty member doesn't know the answer a student is looking for they will always point them in the right direction. As a student that had dropped out of high school, I don't believe I would be where I am today if it hadn't been for the staff Sandhills. I highly recommend this college to everyone.

This is a great way to start your college experience. I wasn't sur if a community college was the right place for me, but this college certainly changed my mind. The professors are amazing and are always looking to help their students in any way they can and the campus is beautiful as well.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

Honestly, the best thing to do if you're unsure about what to major in college is to take a year or two away from school first. Live life, explore things and learn about yourself before you decide. You will meet people and go places that will help shape your personality and life goals. Life experience is usually the best teacher anyway! Another thing, don't major in something just for the money. If you do you won't have the passion to stick with it when the going gets rough; especially in the advanced courses close to the end, that's when most students quit. So, learn about yourself, follow your passion and you'll be just fine.

What do you consider the worst thing about your school? Why?

Intra-department politics can sometimes be distracting.

There is a variety of students at Sandhills Community College, but this does not keep any of my classmates from being spunky and full of life; there is never a dull moment.

What should every freshman at your school know before they start?

I made a huge mistake as a high school senior. I decided to attend a college halfway across the country because I had a friend who attended that college. I came to realize after only one semester how horrible the idea really was. Although I had emotional support on occasion from my friend, I struggled greatly since the theater program of which I was enrolled was not as spectacular as I was originally led to believe. The theater had mold issues, and many of the people I had to affiliate with were rude and unreliable. I loved the head director, but that was about it. If I could go back in time and speak with my high-school senior self, I would convince her that following friends to college is one of the worst mistakes anyone could possibly make, especially during such a crucial stage in their life. A college should be chosen based on how their programs can increase a student’s love and knowledge for their interests. College is not about having fun and receiving support from friends. Students must have confidence that they can graduate with their desired degree with just their own determination to do so.

What's the one thing you wish someone had told you about freshman year?

Before going to Sandhills Community College, I wish I knew about their online database. Their library offers free access to their online database, but I did not find out about it until I was already there for a year. It only took me a little while to get used to it and it turned out to be a really helpful tool.
