What are your classes like?

I am personally majoring in Sociology, and minoring in Journalism and Classical Studies. Since I am in the social sciences and Humanities, the majority of my classes are seminar based, with lectures mixed in. My sociology classes in particular emphasize class discussion, and in one my classes, class participation counts for 20{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} of my grade. Journalism classes are also very discussion heavy, while my Classical studies classes tend to have more lectures. I have found the vast majority of the classes I have taken at Brandeis to be very interesting, and a few in particular have really stood out. The Opinion Writing class that I took with Eileen McNamara, a Pulitzer prize winner, was amazing, as was the Ancient Mediterranean Markets and Economics class I took with Cheryl Walker. Except for intro classes, classes at Brandeis tend to have between 15-35 students. One class I am taking this semester has only 13 people. These small classes allow me to really get to know my professors in a way that is impossible at bigger schools. Th

My classes are pretty standard, very much like what I was used to in high school. The big difference comes around exam time, when I have to balance multiple papers and tests in a short amount of time. My classes are tend to be small, around 10-15 people. The one exception was Intro to Sociology, but that's a given. The professors except you do to the homework and come prepared to class. It's definitely easier and less intimidating to speak your ideas in a smaller classroom environment.
