Cal Poly offers countless activities that are campus and non-campus affiliated. Almost every department, if not each major, has a club linked to it to help students with networking for jobs and hearing guest speakers that already have careers in their field of study. I'm an Environmental Management and Protection major involved in the Association of Environmental Professionals club. We meet every two weeks to hear a guest speaker and announcements about up coming mixers and volunteer opportunities. It's awesome listening to professionals speak about their own career paths, and to learn from their mistakes and triumphs.

On the weekends the biggest thing to do is hang out with friends and party. It's hard for guys to get into parties if he isn't in a frat but girls always get into parties. Basketball games and soccer games are the biggest events to attend. Greek life is kind of big-I know a lot of people both in and not in Greek life. However, it does enhance your experience in the party scene. Last weekend, my parents came to visit and I showed them around in SLO and Pismo. Off campus, there is TONS to do. Hike bishops, kayak, go to Farmers, go on a bike ride, camp at the beach, go to a movie!

Men's soccer is one of the most popular sports at Cal Poly. Soccer games usually tend to be high-energy with tons of team spirit, especially when we play against our rival school UCSB. I am a member of the Honors Program at Cal Poly and I live in honors housing, so I am in the freshman apartments instead of the dorms. The apartments are quieter than the dorms since students have their own rooms, instead of being in a double or a triple like in the dorms. Although the apartments are quieter, they still are pretty social and there is a community center with lots of fun events. The dorms are definitely the most social and people usually leave their doors open and get to know everyone on their floor. I made a lot of my closest friends here through WOW, which stands for Week of Welcome. WOW is an orientation program through which you meet people who live in your same housing community. You do tons of fun activities around SLO, such as kayaking, kick-boxing, paint-balling, and community service. At Cal Poly there are lots of fun things to do on the weekends. On Thursday nights many students go line dancing at "The Grad,' a bar downtown that has 18+ nights. For students who choose to party, there are plenty of frat parties within walking distance of campus on Friday and Saturday nights. If you choose not to party, there are always events on campus in the community centers, such as movie nights and dances.

Many recreational sports are popular on campus. Besides the varsity players, many students play in leagues called "intramurals". There are different levels to the intramurals depending on how competitive of a team you are on. Intramurals are offered in a wide variety of sports. Students in the dorms love to socialize and dorm doors are often left open and visitors are encouraged. Freshmen tend to mob together in large groups and enjoy meeting new people. Cal Poly has a large alumni pool and often is able to get really amazing guest speakers to come. Representatives from highly competitive companies also recruit heavily from our school as well. Some companies might include: Facebook, Google, Raytheon, Microsoft, Agilent, Lab 126... the list goes on.

Soccer's pretty big with the school - we try and break the record for largest crowd at the CP vs. Santa Barbara men's game every year. I met all my close friends through classes I took my first year and by extension, friends of theirs. Depending on how many classes you take, coursework can get tough - 2ams stretching it even with 16 units if you just stay organized, but 12 or 1am aren't late nights. Everything in town is within walking distance, or free if you use you ID and take the bus, Farmer's market is a big night in the week - especially in the fall and spring when we've got good weather.
