Some stereotypes about the students are that they are only interested in studying and don't really have much fun, that they don't have much free time at all, and that students often depressed. Some stereotypes about William and Mary are that it's a "suicide school" (though I believe this stereotype has gone away a bit in recent years), that it's an "academic bootcamp," that it's really hard to get good grades, and that it's not very good at sports.

Melissa

Perhaps the most common word used to describe the student body is NERDY. Other schools may say it like an insult, but here at WM, we've embraced it. Our study addiction has turned into a running joke on campus, but also a source of pride. When we recently lost our mascot, most of the suggestions for a replacement involved studying in some way: The William & Mary Dorks, the Fightin' Swemmers (after our library, named Swem), Ye Olde Colonial Nerds, etc...

John

That our school is boring and full of people that just study all of the time and that students here can't have a good time.

Allison

Before coming to WM I expected a school that was South of the Mason-Dixie line--homogenus, conservative, and Christian.

Ash

-students are violently introverted, religiously grade-grubbing overachievers, and mentally unstable suicides. -that all the students are conservative in their ideologies -students don't know how to have fun; students are sexually repressed virgins -students are sober as sin, and anti-smoking has become the new smoking.
