How often should I phone home? Is once a day too much?

I don't talk to my parents much, mainly because we weren't that close as I was a teenager. I am always envious of my friends to talk to their parents a lot, and a LOT of them do talk to their parents daily! I say, whatever you feel comfortable with is just fine.

It all depends on what makes you and your family feel comfortable. The transition from high school to college is a totally different experience for everyone, so if you feel like you need to call home every ten minutes, go right ahead and do it. Calling home frequently does, however, hinder your ability to settle in and adjust. The idea, I think, is to gradually ween yourself off of home and settle in at a rate that makes you comfortable. It will get easier as the semester rolls along, so don't worry if you're feeling really overwhelmed. There a tons of kids in the same boat as you are.
