Describe the students at your school.

There aren't really groups that I have experienced on campus. The athletic teams tend to stick together, and some ethnic groups stay together. But, generally speaking, there are very fine lines of separation if any at all. A technically oriented, lower class or socially inept student may feel out of place on this campus. Also, someone who chooses not to drink might feel out of place. Most students wear sweatpants and sweatshirts to class during the cold weather. Girls often wear skirts and sun dresses during the warmer weather and men wear anywhere between a shirt and tie with khaki pants to shorts and a t-shirt during the warmer months. Popped collars are not uncommon. In a hypothetical situation of there being four tables of students in the dining hall, one would be a group of guys from an athletic team (either crew or football), another would be a mix of guys and girls that are just there for dinner and laughing, another would be a table of faculty or administrators, and the last table would be filled with a bunch of girls (because the girls tend to stick together sometimes). Most HWS students are from the northeastern United States and are from upper-mid to lower-upper class. Students are politically aware and most seem to be left minded, but there is a fair amount of conservatively minded people to balance. It is not common to hear people talk about their future salary.

Diverse. Accepting. Friendly. Can be cliquey, depending on group. There are very rich students as well as lots of students on 100% financial aid packages. Also, students who are very involved with on-campus events (athletics, student government, community service, political groups, etc) as well as those who sit in and play video games all day. Once you find your niche, everyone loves Hobart and William Smith for their own reasons, and the rest transfer.
