Tufts University Top Questions

What is the stereotype of students at your school?

Sarah

Many people think Tufts is the Ivy-reject school and that Tufts kids are really bitter that they didn't get into Harvard or Yale, but that is not true. Tufts is an incredibly selective school, and Tufts students really are happy to be here. Tufts is fantastic because it's a work hard-party hard school; it's pretty rare that you get the combination of really fun, normal kids who are also brilliant. Most of us joke that everyone at Tufts is socially awkward, which may be true...but we're all socially awkward together and we definitely know how to have a good time. Tufts is also known as pretty preppy and JAPpy (Jewish American Princesses), which I won't deny.

Corey

Smart kids who are not too big on the social aspects of college.

Kris

Maybe liberal, but most NE colleges are considered to be liberal.

leila

A big stereotype is that Tufts students are just Harvard rejects and are therefore bitter about it.

Emmerson

The most well-known stereotype of Tufts is that it is the number one choice for "ivy-league rejects."

Andrew

Tufts students are for the most part not very attractive. I've heard the same thing said by girls with respect to the men of Tufts.

Ash

Very diverse, international, eclectic and progressive.

Alex

Tufts is definitely known for its academics, not its athletics, which was part of what drew me to it in the first place. I didn't want a school that would be obsessed with its athletic teams and everyone definitely grows to be fond of the Jumbo. I didn't really know any of the stereotypes about Tufts students coming in, but from what I hear Tufts students are known for being smart, active citizens, rich, and preppy.

Andrew

Tufts is often referred to as a home for ivy league rejects. The kids are pretty smart and extremely hard working who might spend more time at the library than out partying on a weekend.

Josh

Smart, Jewish

Rachel

Tufts is a school for Ivy League rejects. The student body is very liberal.

Charlotte

That they are clicky. That they only chose to go to Tufts because they didn't get into an Ivy.

Ashley

idk, tufts is very international and diverse; the tufts students are very concerned with wordly issues and are very informed

Amy

the boys are unattractive, there's cute and then there's "tufts cute" parties are lame

Sarah

Before coming to Tufts I heard that Tufts students were either nerdy, jocks, or rich kids, with the majority being nerdy. Tufts students are known to be intelligent kids who want to make a difference in the world- students who love globalism and international relations. They are known to spend way to much time on homework and don't spend enough time having fun.

Charlie

-Rejects of the Ivies, especially Brown -Men are short and Jewish

Arielle

I think something that comes to mind when most people think of Tufts is the emphasis on global leadership and international relations. I believe that the university prides itself on being seen this way. As for Tufts students, I think we are usually seen as nerdy or artsy.

Corey

Ivy-league rejects. All the girls are ugly (Which is somewhat true)

Jessica

Tufts students want to save the world.

Liz

I didn't really know any before I came to Tufts, besides lots of international students. Kinda preppy. Tufts does lots of active citizenship and IR is most popular major. Students work hard, but know when to relax.

Emily

That it's the Harvard reject school.

Arielle

That we are the students who were rejected from ivy league universities.

Shelby

Some of the stereotypes about Tufts is that the students are Ivy-league rejects, the party scene is pretty pathetic, and the workload is pretty demanding.

Irene

We are supposedly not very attractive. At first I definitely agreed but once you get to know the students better there are definitely good-looking guys and gals out here. We are described as "save the world" types. The kind of kids who organize rallies and are always trying to be greener etc. etc.

Shawn

That Tufts students are all Ivy League rejects who are bitter.

Susan

dorky, a bit of a stigma about the unattractiveness of the students here.
