Looking for the next party.

Crystal

Every student is friendly and willing to help.

Clint

Very liberal and close minded to other ways of thinking, also they are very condescending towards others.

Kayla

Everyone usually trying to pass the class.

Elizabeth

My classmates are there because that is the 'natural' next step or because their parents have pressured them and in that respect, they're either hyper-relaxed or hyper-nervous in their attitude towards school; rarely do I come across students who are genuinely self-motivated.

John

My classmates are the most diverse group of individuals and are also open minded to other religions as well as race---in fact, UC Riverside is known for its great diversity.

Amelia

Most classmates are friendly and helpful, but some are quiet and keep to themselves.

Tammy

My classmates are very intelligent, opinionated, and keep me on my toes academically and socially.

Amara

My classmates usually keep to themselves, but they are not afraid to ask questions.

Dylan

The thing I enjoyed the most at UCR were the people I met while going to school there. Some of whom I am still good friends with.

Mel

Student body does its job well. Although they could plan better event but overall they do a good job.

Cathy

The student body was pretty well rounded. It will be easy to find people you identify with.

Marshall

Extremely liberal student body in general. Tons of Asians, really the school is primarily Asian regardless of whatever some statistics might say. The administration is VERY apathetic about the students and for the most part the students return the favor. There were rarely rallys, protests or "movements", and the ones that popped up were usually just the angry Mexicans from Mecha and they don't number too many.

Jamie

UCR is incredibly diverse as I've previously mentioned. One may stay within their racial realm or branch out, either way there is a place to fit in. Many sororities/frats, clubs, although unspoken, are ethnic.. Asians, Hispanics, Africans.. It's a fantastic way to preserve one's culture. LGBT is definitely huge.. They also pass out free condoms if you need some at their office. Don't forget to check out a Vagina Monologue. People are really relaxed in their dress code at UCR.. it's incredibly hot and humid so theres no need to dress up and wear too much makeup as it will melt.. Just t shirt, shorts, flip flops.. 4 tables at the dining hall? -I would say there are a group of international students from China, and India (perhaps in their late 20's) discussing the advanced Business course they are taking, and how it can relate to their own country's economic growth.. Somewhat a small, friendly debate, in white and yellow polo shirts.. with more class, culture and poise than most other students. -A huge extended Greek section.. each sorority, fraternity in it's own group of 4 or 5, as their own members come and go in between class.. Although they try so tough to be separated from one another.. they can't help but be addicted to the gossip.. and to 'stay close to their frenemies'... and a random non-sorority groupie that is hopping from frat boy's lap to lap.. -A group of religiously, racially diverse- a Christian white man, a Muslim Girl, an Indian guy in his turban, 2 asian girls in Hello Kitty shirts, a white girl from Arizona, innocent freshman dorm-mates sharing their high school memories and what major they plan to take, and what organizations to join.. thats the great thing about college. -Sports table - soccer girls and the hot baseball players, in their gear, ready for the game. Politics: It seems as though more people at UCR are liberal than conservative.. but it also seems as though most people don't know much about politics, nor their own country..

Ryan

The diversity in the student body at UCR is awesome!! When I started going to UCR, I did not know what to expect however, I now have lots of friends springing from different racial, cultural and religous backgrounds. In fact, UCR is one of the most diverse universities in the country! And everyone hangs out with everyone else. At least in my expiriences, I have not had any prejudicies or discrimination put against me, which is something that I am really happy about. Most UCR students are from all over California, most being commuters. However, we also have a wide variety of international and out of state students.

Robert

I feel that UCR is predominantly middle to upper class Asian students. UCR stresses diversity(to an almost annoying degree) and does have a very diverse student body. Students are most likely liberal, and there is a strong LGBT community on campus. Students are not particularly politically aware.

Ryan

As mentioned before, antisemitism was growing when I was there. Other than that, it was a pretty eclectic bunch.

Skylar

Is the most diverse I've been a part of. I made friends with students from almost every background imaginable.

Amanda

ucr has a very diverse student body. i think any student would feel at home here. most students wear jeans and a t-shirt to class. it is very casual. the fraternities and sororities basically hang out together, but it is not that big of a deal. money doesn't seem like too much of an issue.

Aileen

There is something for everyone at UCR, we have it all and if we do not you can create it. I will say that UCR can be very "clicky", due to the diversity.

Rachel

UC Riverside is so eclectic that I doubt anyone wouldn't find themselves a niche somewhere. I remember doing a lot of campus tours, some campuses were obviously frat/sor heavy because all the kids were wearing trendy clothes... some were a bit more hip hop friendly, but UCR pretty much has everything all at once. Well, I admit... we often wear pajamas to classes before 10am, but they're comfy and we didn't feel like getting dressed. Most UCR students are from Southern California,so the parking lots for the apartments and dorms are pretty empty on weekends. A lot of students like to live far enough away from mom and dad that they have to live on or near campus, but close enough to go home and do laundry on weekends.

Shannyn

Everyone was polite and respectful of various backgrounds and personal beliefs. I am prety sure most everyone felt comfortable expressing themselves. In fact, I really learned a lot by witnessing various peaceful demonstrations.

KC

Refer above to section on stereotypes.

joe

student body is pretty diverse. for anyone looking to join a fraternity/sorority look into the greek system and for anyone looking for coed i would suggest DSP or APhiO

Paul

UC Riverside has one of the most diverse student bodies in the United States.

Parker

Honestly I think students of UC Riverside could and need to work harder on interacting more with people of different backgrounds. Though I think there is a good mixture of it, it can still improve. Any student who is not willing to step out of their comfort zone every once in awhile will feel out of place at Riverside because though there are a lot of cool people who are quick to offer assistance, they can't and probably won't do all the work. College is what You make it and if you have a positive attitude, get involve, and put yourself out there you should have a Great experience, even with the Ups and Downs.

Shelby

The student organizations are very involved on campus and they are a lot of fun. A lot of the student body seem to be with some student organization.

Eli

Most students are either politically unaware or are just plain apathetic toward politics. The dress on campus is pretty casual, jeans and a tee and some chucks maybe. Alot of students interact with each other and are of different ethnicities. The majority at UCR-which I have heard is about 40{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c}--is Asian so you see a lot of Asians hanging out together. UCR is a melting pot; there are students from all over----India, Pakistan, Dublin, Mexico, Nigeria, etc. This is probably one of the coolest things about UCR.

Jessie

UC Riverside has the lowest admissions standards, so it doesn't come as a surprise that the student body is largely unimpressive. Student demographics vary strongly depending on which college you belong to (CHASS, COE, or CNAS). If you're in CHASS, then it's a safe bet that 90{4a082faed443b016e84c6ea63012b481c58f64867aa2dc62fff66e22ad7dff6c} people you'll meet in your classes are slow-minded, a bore (and sometimes a pain) to converse with, and not worthy of any networking efforts. As a general rule, there are two classes of people on campus: People from San Francisco, San Diego, Orange County and the nicer parts up and down the coast will be drawn to each other and develop friendships, while ignoring students who are from hometowns with lower estate value (especially Riverside natives).

Chris

There are students of all kinds at UCR. Racial, religious, LGBT, fraternity/sorority, and other groups fill the campus. You are bound to identify with one of the groups. It is a very friendly campus where there is a friend for everyone. There is a cooperative feeling that is not found at other campuses that extends from the students to other students, professors, and everyone at the university. Students are not very politically active, although if you would like to show off your "Buck Fush" t-shirt or "Free Tibet" stickers, there are plenty of people to hang out with at the cafeteria. Most students would say the university is quite liberal (I have never met a conservative or even right-of-center professor, but who has), there are some pretty active Young Republicans that you can see in-person. The student body is slightly divided, with common groups broken up by majors and ethnic claims, but it is probably less divided than other campuses. GO TO UCR to see what it is like... don't take my word for it.

Aishwarya

UC Riverside needs to improve on student body activities as well as increasing the pride that Student's have about their Campus. I think that a lot of the responsibility to increase student pride should be on the UC Regents that hold all the funds. Building more food locations, more activities outside of Campus, nicer bars, etc. would be a great boost for UC Riverside. They recently built an entirely new Commons area which is a huge improvement from what it used to be.

William

The socio-economic mix is significant in that we have people from the tough parts of California and those that partied in Orange county and so could not gain admission into a better school, the dichotomy of personality, race, wealthy, status, and background is vast. A case study would be PAD-we have Persians, WASPs, Latinos, African Americans, Koreans, Chinese republicans and dems though many more dems than republicans and that is true of the entire school. Lower middle class and upper lower class would be the norm, but there many upper middle class as well. Most students at politically apathetic and if active leftist, many want their degrees just for a job, but others don't so it depends. There are many race oriented organizations so if you wish to isolate yourself you can, but many groups don't have race as a criteria as honors or PAD and a few others-I never affiliate with the bigoted and racist ones-but they exist if you want only people of your color-many spew PC nonsense and only encourage petty ideology. These are in the minority as many who come here have friend of all colors and creeds so know that before you come.

Tina

UCR has a very diverse group of people. I believe eastern people would feel out of place because there are not many of them on campus. People dress very casual to school, jeans and a t-shirt. Most students stay around others who are similar to them or have a common interest. Most of the students are from LA and inland empire area. Most of the students here are pretty spoiled.

tom

i dono, neveer heard about them doing anything other than being voted..... which shows that they are not active.

KJ

Diversity is UCR's strongest suit. The biggest, most active groups on campus are typically the Pilipino/Filipino Student Organization (Katipunan), Nigerian Student Association (NSA), MEChA and Chinese Student Association (CSA). But it goes beyond ethnicities. There is a really well-regarded LGBTI resource center, a great Women's Resource office, and good student organizations/departments in support of Jewish & Muslim students/programs. We are all generally students who either owe our education to grants & loans, or students who work way too many jobs to pay for their tuition. There aren't many rich people, and the ones that are there don't really seem to flaunt it all the time. It builds a more down-to-earth, humble yet uncertain student body.

Denny

The composition of diversity at UC Riverside is one that seeks to education everyone about his/her cause. Riverside is a great place to learn about different people and different lifestyles. The idea that someone would not fit at UC Riverside is hard to imagine because we are so diverse that anyone can find their nitch on campus.
