Emmerson

I don't know of many stereotypes about Bowdoin, really. The only one that I am aware of is that everyone does sports and school, and extracurriculars.

Harper

There's definitely a sort of New England stereotype that accompanies Bowdoin - preppy, upper-middle class, white collar students, wearing J.Crew (thank you Freeport) and other brand names.

Bobby

They are pot heads, bowdoin students are hippies, not very culturally diverse.

Taylor

Everyone is either preppy, a hippy, and from New York or Boston

Theresa

Bowdoin students are supposed to be very preppy on the one hand but also very environmentally conscious and liberal on the other hand. They supposedly study like crazy during the week and party wildly on the weekends.

Blake

Extension of a New England prep school, Athletic, lots of "jocks." Very "preppy," but also very smart kids.

Rachel

Some people think of Bowdoin students as very preppy, privileged, and athletic. Before coming here, I had heard that J-Crew attire and either pearls or a Red Sox cap were the typical Bowdoin look. As for the school in general, people comment on how small Bowdoin is, and assume that everyone knows everyone else.

Brett

There are so many stereotypes about both Bowdoin and Bowdoin students. First of all, Bowdoin is a small place. Get over it. It's not a big state campus, its not as big as a Middlebury Campus, or Tufts, or Trinity. But, during the winter months at any of these schools, you won't be mad about your short walks to class or to your dorm. Bowdoin school spirit needs to improve thats for sure. About students. The biggest stereotype is about the looks of the students. If your not with good looking people, what's the motivation right? Definitely. Bowdoin students are definitely good looking. The only guy I will comment on is myself, and I am good looking--just a heads up. Girls here i find to be great. Ok, some have the library tan, and some will win your hometown hog contest, but I find that the majority of girls are certainly legit. My friends and I like to live on a binary scale of rating the girls we see. Simply a 0 or a 1. This makes it a lot easier, because instead of using a 1 through 10 scale, where a 6 and a 7 may be iffy, you can use a 1 or 0. If the rating is a 1, then you can go for it, a 0, and you should steer clear. Despite our good looks, students here are very smart, thats a fact.

Nick

Positive: Bowdoin students are seen as a combination of smart and sociable, and the stereotype is for the most part true. Negative: One social stereotype is that the girls at Bowdoin aren't attractive. Not as true as it is made out to be.

Billy

Ugly girls

Leah

That the girls are ugly.

Billy

For the most part, stereotypes are very down played compared to the majority of other schools i have visited or my friends attend.

Betsy

Bowdoin definitely has a stereotype of being full of well-to-do, athletic, preppy New Englanders. I've also heard generalizations of Bowdoin being a very secluded and chilly place where people drink a lot of beer.

Morgan

that they drink all the time

Maxime

That people are preppy, that it's freezing as balls here, that

Jessica

One of the biggest stereotypes that I heard before coming to Bowdoin was that Bowdoin was just a continuation of New England prep schools. Also, that all of the students were from just outside Boston. Another stereotype that I heard was that everyone was an athlete and everyone drinks a lot.

Oliver

Preppy, Rich, Spoiled. Work hard, play hard.

Blake

They are very preppy. They only wear jeans, fleece, and l.l. bean boots and carry around nalgenes.

Hannah

Everyone is from Boston, wealthy, and eats a lot of lobster.

Kim

Bowdoin students are sometimes portrayed as prepsters of New England. Your typical Bowdoin girl hails from right outside of Boston, wears a lot of J.Crew, carries a North Face backpack (occasionally a Longchamp tote), wears UGGs, parties with her friends on weekends, and puts the photos up on Facebook. Guys are a little harder to classify, but again, on the preppy side, from right outside of Boston.

Anne

Preppy, stuck-up, boarding school kids that come from upper class families

Aaron

The most prevalent stereotype, often expressed by students themselves, is that Bowdoin is an extremely homogeneous student body. Another stereotype paints Bowdoin students as smart and hardworking, but rich and spoiled.

Caroline

The girls are ugly, and the guys are hot.

anastasia

crunchy-granola types preppy unattractive people

Brittany

Smart, Preppy, from "just outside of Boston", Bowdoin girls are ugly

Kelly

Bowdoin students come in many varieties yet they share one common trait; they all the drink. There are the studious asians from all over the globe who take chemistry, math, and science classes and actually take advantage of Bowdoin's curriculum. There there are the drinkers. They get drunk Wednesday through Sunday, every week. Then there are the athletes who drink in and out of season although not to the extent of the non sport boozers. Girls come in two types; sports team groupies and prudes. The former will have at least made out with, if not slept with, every member of the basketball, football, hockey, or lacrosse team. Colloquialisms for such girls are puck sluts or laxstitutes. The other kind of girl rarely puts out but yet gets drunk all the time. If your not on the hockey team, you actually have to try to get laid. Bowdoin students are also known to be smart and academically motivating. Bowdoin girls are also supposed to ugly. This couldn't' be more true.

Lauren

We have "ugly chicks." There is no dating, just hook-ups or "marriages."

Taylor

preppy, athletic, ugly girls, granola.

Quinn

There is the stereotype that all Bowdoin students are atheletes and that they all drink.

Alicia

Coming to middle of no where Maine, I expected a mixture of country hics and rich folk.

Emmerson

ugly girls, Nazi security (hi randy!), voiceless student body with a useless student government, shit weather, and full of kids from outside Boston. Those aren't stereotypes
