Brigham Young University-Hawaii Top Questions

I consider the worst thing about Brigham Young University-Hawaii is that it is going to be so far away from my family. My family lives in Oklahoma and we're all going to be so far apart. I am going to miss them; however, I'm Samoan and being in Hawaii will help me learn a lot about my culture and heritage. Being the first of my family to go to college is a great opportunity. Indeed the worst thing about BYU is to be far away from my family, but I'll be at the best school.

It is a little small town as we are out in the country. It is really difficult to get to most stores.

It might be very bad if you are not a LDS member, as this school is set up for the LDS youths, so the rules mgiht be very tight if you are not a members.

I feel that the housing situation here at Brigham Young University to be the worst thing about the school. This is because the school is planning to expand its enrollment, which creates a problem for students looking for housing.

There are a few things I don't necessarily agree with at BYU-H, and one of those things is the lack of information on the website. It was easy to reach someone when I had a question, but when I asked it, it felt as if the person on the other end wasn't listening to the entire question. In a way, I wouldn't really blame them (there are a lot of student employees), but when it came to getting information I couldn't access online or by letter, I had to call around and around.

The worst thing about the school is that freshman have to live on campus their first year.

The worst thing about BYUH is on campus housing and services. The on campus housing is extremely small andto many requirements to qualify to get to live off campus. Also getting anything fixed is impossible and overall cleanlines is extremely low.

The worst thing about the school is that there isn't as big of a range of majors as there is at bigger schools. There are students who would love to get their higher education here, in a subject that isn't offered as a major.

The worst aspect of Brigham Young University is the housing situation. On-campus housing is expensive, small, outdated, and their meal plans are not very accommodating. Also the off campus situation is not much better. Living off campus is cheaper; however, the living conditions are for the most part as outdated and run-down. There are no apartment complexes which force all the single students to live in houses that are lacking facilities such as full kitchens and laundry. Also the president of the school increased the student population without planning for more housing, which have caused housing shortages.

The worst thing about BYU-H is that they do not have adequate housing for the number of students they accept. This is the worst thing because besides this BYU-H is a great school but it is hard for students to find housing and that creates a big problem.

The worst thing about my school would probably be BYU's Athletic Program. Although they have sports like Men's Basketball, Women's Basketball which was just established a few years ago, Women's Soccer and Cross Country, and may others to top it off, since BYU is suh a small but convienent school for me it does not hold a favorite sport of mine, Track and Field. If BYU-H had Track and Field team and maybe a lot more money distributed to the Athletics Program coming to BYU-H would be the best school suited for me.

It is so close to the ocean and surfing! I fear that it will be harder to study due to the wonderful location and beautiful weather. I worry that it may require a lot more self discipline and motivation to keep a great GPA. I fear that the tendency may be to be more laid back and less strict about study time. I am so drawn to this university and it's business program. However, I know that I will need to be very diligent in my time management and need to develop even stronger study skills.

Because it is a smaller university there are not nearly as many classes available for all people. But with saying that one should look into a chosen field that is offered here before attending it anyways.

It's hard to stay motivated when you live on the beach.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of the worst thing, BYU-Hawaii is a great university. I guess the worst thing would be the cafeteria food.

The worst thing about my school is the size. Some people just can't handle such a small atmosphere. There are 2400 students currently attending the university and that's less than the number of people that attended my high school.

Far from town and food is not good. Limited food choose option over here.

How much the president doesn't listen to the concerns of the students. We are the ones going to school and we know the things that need to be improved for a better education.

It's far from any big city with a store of any kind that has reasonable prices for everyday foods and goods. Otherwise you spend twice the amount you should on something because it's at the closest store available without riding the bus for 2 hours to get it.

Spending a lot of money to buy textbooks so i always have to worry about money to support my schooling.

Location would be my answer, but even that isn't a good answer and these are the reasons. The location is good because it is close to some of the nicest beaches on the island and tourist flock to this side of the island because of the worldwide surf competitions that are held here, the laid back lifestyle, and warmth of its residents. The bad thing about it is that you have to drive for at least an hour or so, depending on traffic, to go to malls, theaters, etc. Gas is not cheap.

The worst thing about my school is that there is not the funding that most schools have. I play water polo and was going to play in college but wanted to come here to fulfill my dream of studying across the sea at a church school and just recently they had to cut the water polo team because of financial reasons. There is much to be grateful for, and I am grateful to be studying here, just wish that the school had more money to do the good things they intend to do.

Housing on campus has it's problems with cleanliness and bugs. Some of this is to be expected, as it is a tropical climate, but some places pass the line.

Brigham Young Universty campus is located in Laie, and is opposite of town. Its secluded and theres not much in Laie, and the local stores are too expensive. It cost money to take the bus to town and is really time consuming. It takes about an hour to get to the closest town that consist of any shopping area. The closest dentist is about 45 minutes away. It would be nice if BYUH is located where students can have easier access to stores, health centers, and places that are walking distance.

There's nothing bad about my school. I love my experience here. I've learned so many things and met so many great people.

Rules are enforced very strictly. Those who have problems with keeping up with the standards of the school would have a hard time here. Depending on certain situations, if the Honor Code is broken in an exceptionally bad way, probation will be skipped and the student would be expelled from the school.

The worst thing about the school is that at first it is hard to adjust to the slower Hawaiian time.

I'd have to say the worst thing about this campus is the strict honor code that they constantly change to make much stricter than before. This doesn't give the students much freedom.

the worst thing about this school would be that the town its in is pretty isolated from the rest of the island, the closes walmart is at least an hour away. it makes it hard when your school supply shopping, but other than that its nice to be in the country

It is so far away from town it is a bit inconvenient (besides the small grocery stores nearby).
