Katie

My classmates more than anything are willing to help.

I don't know they are all online

Gretchen

Most of my classmates are friendly, but some just don't seem to like new people.

Kelly

This semester at CMU I have joined a sorority and I love it. They have become my close friends and girls I can come to with anything. We have also done many activities fundraising for our philanthropy. Students that might feel out of place at CMU are students that are a little bit on the quiet side and that don't get involved. Most students wear sweats to class each day for the most part. I think different types of students interact if they have to. If they have groups in class or projects, then they are obviously required to interact.

Courtney

I think Central does a great job of introducing students to diversity with the many different RSO's on campus. There are so many different places to get involved and so many ways to learn about others who are different from yourself. I think most students come from very diverse backgrounds, there are really not many people who have the same situation occuring in their life at that moment in time and yet you feel welcome here and feel like there are many people who have gone through whatever you may be going through.

Julie

Central seems to be a pretty laid-back campus. I don't think there is a huge amount of diversity, but it is pretty typical for this area. Most students either wear jeans or sweatpants and a t-shirt to class. Middle-Class social backgrounds are the norm.

Amber

Most of the students that I have encountered that go to CMU are from the east side of the state. I am from the west side, so whenever they talk about Coney Island or any other type of store or restraunt that I've never heard of it gets a little lonely. However, I get to tell them about how I live off of Lake Michigan, so I guess it's a trade off.

Robin

students are very diverse

Tara

the student body is so eager and willing to help at all times.

Jordon

I would say most people at CMU feel comfortable here, I know I do.

Devin

I don't think any student would feel out of place at Central, their are enough groups for everybody to fit in. Most students wear sweatpants and a hoodie to class. I noticed that a lot of people at Central come from well developed families and have most if not all of their college paid for.

Dawson

diverse. lots of crazy people, lots of sweet people, and a bunch of people in between.

Angela

I don't think that any student would feel out of place at Central Michigan. Students wear everything from sweat pants and hoodies to professional dress. I think most Central Michigan students are from the middle areas of Michigan.

Andy

Central always has a variety of extra-curricular events to go to. It is very easy to find something you like and get involved. To class most students wear jeans, tees, hoodies, and coats. There is a ton of school spirit and Greek pride so you will see a lot of that. There is not segregation in the dinning halls. There are always lots of people together. Most students are from south east Michigan (Detroit area).

Cassie

Overall, Central is a pretty open environment allowing students to be who they are. There is a wide range of students, yet the majority are white middle class students.

Overall, Central is a pretty open environment allowing students to be who they are. There is a wide range of students, yet the majority are white middle class students.

Monica

I think that the way students dress to class is split some people get ready and dress preppy to class and others wear sweat pants, there are some that have there own personal style. i really dont think that any type of person would feel out of placeon campus, i think that CMU does a good job of trying to make all people have something to do of interest or belief.

Cara

AWESOME. super friendly and motivated.

Monica

Different races don't really seem to mingle very much on campus, which is unfortunate.

Aleigha

I think the students are split into cliques. i think we are not that diverse of a campus. Students here I have found come from all different types of backgrounds and home lives.

Jenny

There really arent any cliques here or cool people so to say. I don't know who would feel out of place here, there really is a spot for everyone. I guess maybe a super shy or unsocial person who doesn't like meeting people and making new friends all the time would feel out of place. But if you're like that then you definitely should not come to CMU. Students wear jeans, sweatshirts, sweatpants, basically anything they feel comfortable in to class. There are a lot of kids who pay for their own school through loans here, and there are also a lot of kids whose parents pay for them. I'd say its about 50/50. Everyone is pretty much from the middle class here. There's not too much politics talk around here, at least as I have seen. Most CMU students are from Michigan, there is a handful from the upper penisula (there's even a house near campus called the Yooper House, thats always a fun time), there are a lot of people from the grand rapids area, and a ton more from the metro detroit area. There are also a couple townies here too.

Meagan

Most of the students who go to Central are white, but there are many different races mixed in. Most students wear sweats and pajamas to class because no ne really cares what they look like going to class, but get dressed later to go out.

Scott

There is a level of apathy on our campus which gets very frustrating. However, there is a large group of students that really cares and goes out of their way to create a better environment on our campus. A large part of the population come from middle class white families. We get a lot of students from the Metro-Detroit area.

Rachelle

Students wear whatever they want to class, I often see many differwent styles while walking. Most people are middle class financially. I do not meet too many students who are on extreme ends of the spectrum.

Emily

I feel like a lot of students are from the Detroit area. When I first came to Central in Fall 2005, almost everyone I met was from the East side of the state. I was a little surprised. As for dress code here at Central, the comfier the better. Many students wear the same sweats and hoodies every week and are not phased by it. I believe I may be part of the same percentage of students that actually gets dressed in the morning.

Dana

I like how involved the RSO's on campus are, but only when they are proactive and not assulting, such as the Young American's for Freedom where in Spring 2007. I feel that I am not as educated as I would like to be on many current events and issues relating to the student body on this campus, but due to PR, programs and other events put on by the diverse RSO's, I am able to culture myself a little bit more. I'd say that most students are comfortable going to class in sweats, or most commonly, jeans and a t-shirt. Most students come from middle income families who are taking out loans to make their way through the college years.

Lauren

Overall, Central is a diverse and welcoming community for all students

Jessie

As for Central's cultural subgroups, I do not think that this campus is very diverse.

Rich

I belive that it would take alot for a student to feel out of place at CMU. There is somthing here for everyone from all walks of life. Most students wear jeans to class. From time to time you will see students dressed up for presentations, etc. I do not belive students talk much about what there learning in class unless there talking to someone who has that class. My roomates and I occansionaly share things we learn, but not very often.

Evan

Girl go Guy ratio is awesome for guys, very good looking student body.

Jordan

The student body is very diverse

Bob

We need more unifying activities.

Hunter

The student body of central is made up of many people from different walks of the earth. However, I would like to see just a bit more diversity.

Adrian

everyone is very nice

Cody

For the most part i people here are very nice and easy going. It is real easy to make friends.

Logan

I have meet many different types of people on the CMU campus. I believe the diversity of the campus and the classes that speak about the topic has helped me grow to understand the topic of diversity.

Kyle

I love the student body, and I couldn't ask for more. Most of the students seem to come from rich backgrounds, but being in Greek life that is more common than not.

Alex

CMU is a huge melting pot, in that there is alot of diversity here, everone gets along,

Paul

The CmU student body is pretty varied. I dont eat on campus so i cant tell what the people at the table would look like. Most people seem to be from a little bit of a higher financial background but there are people from every socio economic level.

Charlie

there is little african american, lot os asian american, alot of student from east side tri county are and some from upper peninsula. campus is conservative not allot of free expression or diversity.

Alex

Last semester there was some problems with racial issues on campus. Some students made some nooses and hung them up in one of the classes. This event was largely looked at in Michigan as well as all over the Nation.

Katie

CMU's student body is pretty diverse. One thing that brings us all together is our comfort-loving style. Before I came here I was worried that I have to get dressed up for class. Now, I have learned that if I sleep in too late, it's perfectly fine to run to class in sweats and a t-shirt because chances are, that's what half the class is wearing too!

jake

pretty diverse and tolerant. Personally I dont think there is much racism here

Peter

I saw a Neo-nazi march two years ago, it made me pretty mad but I think the campus handled the situation well.

Lauren

I dont think that any student would feel out of place on campus, I think that we have a very diverse campus and I have never encountered any kind of bad experience with another group or race. Most students wear comfortable clothes to class like sweatshirts and sweatpants or jeans a lot.

Thomas

It is a very diverse student body and i like it.

Liz

Most students are either from affluent cities or from the country. Its really different being from a big city to see that most people come from a town where their population was the size of my graduating class.

Chelsea

I would say that the student body at Central Michigan University is divers. The interactions is typically friendly, open and out going!

Ashley

Centrals student body is more diverse then many notice. Campus is open and accepting to many different types of groups. There are several minority greek lettered organizations, cultural organizations, political groups, educational groups and social groups, and events that happen on campus making all students feel welcomed here.
